TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE LINE WITH THE SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP MODIFIED 50 THIS
SATURDAY NIGHT. KIRKWOOD, NY…You’ve watched your favorite Modified driver
all season long, they have worked long hours on their machines and now this Saturday
it will all come down to one night of racing to settle the 2008 Modified
Track Champion. The Modified 50 lapper
will determine who will be the 2008 Track Champion. Championship points will
be awarded (see breakdown comparison below).
Race time is 6 p.m. Brian Weaver is gunning for
his second Track Championship in three years at Five Mile Point Speedway this
Saturday. He won his first ever title
at the quarter mile back in 2006.
Weaver has been strong all season long but has also chased a few
mechanical woes along the way. The Modifieds last ran back
on August 16th and Weaver had a night that he hopes won’t be
repeated. Weaver pulled to the pits
with mechanical problems and finished 22nd in the field. Tom McGurrin went
on to win the Modified feature event that night. Should history repeat itself McGurrin would win the title. There are several scenarios that could
develop on Saturday to determine the Track Championship, below are just a
few. Here are the current top
three drivers and points – Brian Weaver (644), J.R. Crouse (593) and
Tom McGurrin (582).
All three drivers have a mathematical shot of winning the title. For Brian Weaver to win the
title he simply needs to finish 16th or better in the Modified 50
lap Season Championship. If J.R. Crouse should win
the feature event he can win the title if Weaver finishes 17th or
worse. If Tom McGurrin
wins his second straight feature he would win the title if Weaver finishes 22nd
or worse and Crouse finishes 4th or worse. Other scenarios could arise
but these are the basic point concepts as to what needs to happen to decide
the 2008 Five Mile Point Speedway Modified Track Champion. Only the top three Modified drivers still
have a shot to win the title. Here is the point
distribution breakdown for both regular season points and championship
