KIRKWOOD, NY - Fifteen wins, 43 top-five finishes and 52 top-10s in 60 starts - stats associated with one of the Northeast's hottest dirt Modified drivers in 2009: Bobby Varin.

The Sharon Springs, N.Y., driver - who won the Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway Modified crown for the fifth time in '09 - has filed an entry to compete in the Short Track SuperNationals presented by Dart Machinery at Five Mile Point Speedway Oct. 10. The 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified event offers a $5,000 top prize via the 'Roll the Dice Challenge' presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. of Schuylkill Haven, Pa.

"It's a good paying show and I'm looking forward to being there," said Varin, 39, who was third in the final point tally this season at Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway and Glen Ridge (N.Y.) Motorsports Park.

Varin will drive the Andy Romano-owned No. 97 at Five Mile Point. He has run the car most recently at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Varin was the 2006 Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour Co-Champion after a point tie with Mitch Gibbs.

Joining Varin in the SuperNationals field is fellow Fonda regular Dave Camara of Fair Haven, Vt. Camara placed fourth in the '09 standings at the 'Track of Champions' driving the Camara Slate No. 26. Camara was sixth in points at Albany-Saratoga (N.Y.) Speedway.

Varin and Camara are part of an entry list that includes Billy Pauch Sr. and Jr., Keith Hoffman, Mike and Rich Ricci, Jeff Strunk, Mike Gular, Meme DeSantis, Stewart Friesen, Brian Weaver and many others. Registration is ongoing through race day.

A number of contingency prizes and special awards have been secured and are listed on the web at: www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com.

Joining the Modifieds on the Oct. 10 Short Track SuperNationals program are Trackside Products RoC Pure Stocks, Four Cylinders and Vintage Modifieds.

A special 6 1/2-lap Trackside Products All-Star Clash pits championship Modified drivers from Accord, Big Diamond (Pa.), Five Mile Point, Grandview (Pa.), Orange County (N.Y.), Penn-Can, Utica-Rome (N.Y.) and Woodhull (N.Y.) for a $600 top prize. All participants in the Clash will be paid.

Grandstand admission bought individually for Adults is set at $18; Senior (62 & over) & Youth (13-17) tickets are $14; Kids 12 and under are FREE.

Thanks to a 'Family Five Pack' promotion, for just $40, a family will receive two Adult tickets, three Senior/Student tickets, five hot dogs and five sodas.

On Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10), pit gates will open at 2 p.m., with grandstand gates opening at 3 p.m.

At 4 p.m., hot laps for the Trackside Products RoC Dart Pure Stocks, Vintage Modifieds and Four Cylinders will hit the track. Their qualifying events will begin at 4:45 p.m.

Modified hot laps have been set for 5:45 p.m. with the division's first heat expected to hit the quarter-mile oval at 6:30 p.m.

Race fans wishing to see only a full Modified program with main events for the support divisions should plan to arrive for the 6:30 p.m. start time.

Due to the high number of outsiders and first-time competitors expected for the SuperNationals, a Friday-night open practice session has been added beginning at 6 p.m. for Oct. 9. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. The practice will run for three hours, with on-track activity curtailing at 9 p.m. Pit admission for practice will be $20. The grandstands will be open to the public free of charge.
