KEVIN BATES WINS MODIFIED FEATURE EVENT
AT FIVE MILE
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bates,
the 2010 Modified point runner-up may have made a statement on Saturday as
he was dialed in on the quarter mile. After starting in the eighth
starting slot it only took the
On
the restart Bates showed some muscle as he again pulled away from
Friesen for the final four circuits. Bates would go on for his first
win of the 2011 racing season with Friesen finishing in second. Palmer
had his best finish of the season in third with Gabriel and Shaun Walker
rounding out the top five.
The
20 lap Sportsman feature event was a wild one during the first half of the
event. A.J. Lord raced out to the early race lead after a caution on the
original start reshuffled the field. Lord and
Jerry Tonti ran out front as P.J. Goodwin and Nick Petrilak began to advance
through the field. Petrilak started in the 10th spot and quickly found
himself in the top five. On lap 7 things would get wild after a caution when
Mike Austin and Vinny DeCicco got
hooked on the backstretch. On the restart another yellow was thrown for a
bad start but on the backstretch race leaders Lord and Tonti tangled
collecting Petrilak in the fray. This would ultimately end the night for
both Tonti and Petrilak. Goodwin found himself out front when racing
resumed and he would go on to lead the remainder of the way for his second
feature win of the season. Mike Loney, Billy Spoonhower,
DeCicco and Justin Andrews rounded out the top
five.
Scott
Bennett recorded his fourth IMCA Modified feature victory in six starts at the
speedway on Saturday night. Early race leader Jay Hoyt had a great
battle with Mike Wilmot. Wilmot took the lead on lap 6 and looked very
strong once again. Bennett began to make his charge from the
11th starting spot and pulled in to the runner up slot on lap 11. On lap
13 disaster struck for Wilmot as a lapped car spun in
turn two collecting him and bringing out the caution. Bennett would
inherit the lead and hold off a late race rally from Gary Smith to go on
for his fourth victory of the season. Smith wound up second followed by
Hoyt, Patti Simpson and Shawn Bruce.
Jason
Butler brought a three race winning streak in to the Street Stock action on
Saturday night as a bounty was put in to effect. For
Andy
Brigham collected his own bounty in the Lightning Cat Expert division on
Saturday night after taking the lead from team mate Andy Colwell on lap 11
of the 15 lap event. Travis Hayes finished second followed by Duane Kinne, Troy Kress and Dennis Keesler.
Chris Carman won his second consecutive Lightning Cat Novice feature on
Saturday. He was followed across the line by Scott Heeman,
Josh Wilbur Marisa Zerinski and Ronald Welch.
