Re:  RoC Dirt Modified Tour Update

Bobby Varin Takes Over Point Lead With Victory In Bridgeport Speedway “60 Over Special”.

BINGHAMTON, NY…The 2013 Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour just completed a busy month of March with events in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  On Saturday, Bobby Varin recorded the win in the “60 Over Special” at Bridgeport Speedway and in the process took over the current RoC Modified point lead entering the next event at Five Mile Point Speedway on Sunday, April 14th.

Varin secured the Saturday victory as he avoided a last lap melee at Bridgeport as race leader Stewart Friesen ran out of gas on the final circuit.  Duane Howard wound up second after utilizing and RoC Buy In provisional starting spot.  Richie Pratt, Jr. bounced back from two flat tires for third with Matt Sheppard advancing from the consolation for fourth and Friesen falling to fifth at the stripe.

For Varin the victory makes him the current point leader on the RoC Dirt Modified Tour while competing in each of the first three events with three different car owner/race team combinations.  Varin was the inaugural Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour co-Champion with Mitch Gibbs back in 2005 and will be utilizing his varying car owner combination to try and lock up his second RoC title.  Varin currently has 124 points.

Despite the unfortunate luck on Saturday, Stewart Friesen is currently second with points with 110 markers.  Friesen was the 2010 RoC Dirt Modified Tour Champion. Craig VonDohren sits in third place in the standings with 105 points and New Egypt RoC Tour race winner Jimmy Horton in fourth place with 102 points.  2012 Race of Champions South Region Champion Ryan Godown sits in fifth place in the standings with 99 points.

The Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour will swing to Five Mile Point Speedway on Sunday, April 14th for a special 55 lap event paying $4,000 to the race winner and $400 to take the green.  The racy quarter mile oval always provides for an entertaining RoC Modified battle.  Race time is 4 p.m. at Five Mile Point Speedway.
