ROB WARNER WINS WORLD FIGURE
8 CHAMPIONSHIP AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.
Ellis
and Warner started on the front row of the 15 lap Figure 8 special event and it
was Ellis taking the early lead. He
would only lead two circuits as Warner took over the point on lap three. Ellis re-established himself as the race
leader on lap five but would drop out of the action just prior to the halfway
mark. Warner would take over from this
point and lead the remainder of the way.
The victory in the Figure 8 Championship earned Warner $1,000 along with
the 2010 point championship. Joe Warner
finished second with Brian Weaver finishing third in his first ever start in
the division.
P.J.
Goodwin overcame several weeks of bad luck in the Sportsman division by
collecting the victory in the 20 lap feature event. Goodwin held off a late charging Chris Wood
as the Sportsman teams put on yet another fantastic feature event. Wood took the lead on the backstretch on the
final lap by hustling to the inside of Goodwin but Goodwin used the cushion in
turns three and four to keep the momentum and regain the lead at the
finish. The margin of victory was by
less than a bumper. For Goodwin it was
his second victory of the season and it also pulled him in to a tie for fifth
in the current point standings. Nick
Petrilak wound up third with Charlie Hendrickson, Jr. and A.J. Lord completing
the top five. For Lord it was his best
finish as a rookie in the division.
Justin
Holland entered the evening as the point leader but a disappointing seventeenth
place finish dropped him to second in the standings. Woods second place finish vaulted him in to
the point lead. (Wood: 893,
Three
peat IMCA Modified feature winner Mike Smith entered the evening with a $125
bounty placed on his recent streak.
Scott Bennett would take advantage of the bounty by cashing in with his
third victory of the season. Bennett
would hold off the late race charge of Howard Jones to capture the win. Jones started thirteenth in the field enroute to his second place finish. Smith saw his streak come to an end but still
wound up finishing third followed by KC Cole and Gary Dence.
Dennis
Keesler led wire to wire in the 15 lap Lightning Cat
Expert feature event. As is the norm for
the class the race went green to checkered without a
caution. For Keesler,
the victory was his second of the season.
Nick Griest and Dave Q. Simms followed him
across the line. Jerry Tunney collected
his first ever victory in the Lightning Cat Novice division. The first year driver overcame heartbreak from
the week prior when he led the entire race only to drop out with two laps
remaining. Duane Kinne
saw his four race win streak come to an end with his runner-up finish. Mike McDaniels
finished third. Laurie Fallis remained undefeated in the A League of Their Own
feature event and Tucker Harpell won his fourth in a row in the Kiddie Cat division.

On Saturday
night at the Five Mile Point Speedway he was finally able to break through to
score his first career series victory in the 25-lap feature event.
The race
took three attempts to get started causing the initial start of the race to go
single file. This benefitted Jamie Christian as he was the pole sitter
for event and he led the first few circuits.
The top two
were Christian and Pieniazek when the caution slowed
the field once again on lap two as Bob Tichenor and
John Cunningham spun and stopped in turn three.
Christian
and Pieniazek picked up their battle for the lead
once the green was shown to the field again. They each searched around
the wide track surface looking for the fastest way around the quarter-mile.
By lap 15 Pieniazek was nearly able to wrestle the lead from
Christian and then on the next circuit he completed the move as the two drivers
exited the fourth turn. Pieniazek found the
bottom to his liking and it helped him secure the top spot.
Pieniazek
led the rest of the event giving him his first career win in a full-size Sprint
Car. Christian was forced to settle for a runner-up finish for the second
consecutive race. Brett Jaycox also repeated
his finish from Penn Can Speedway with a third place run.
Art Kiser
earned his second consecutive top five finish after he crossed the line fourth
with former series champion, Jeremy Quick, scoring a fifth place finish.
