KEVIN BATES RETAKES THE MODIFIED POINT LEAD WITH FOURTH 2013 VICTORY ON SATURDAY NIGHT.

KIRKWOOD, NY…Kevin Bates became the third different Modified point leader in as many weeks after claiming his fourth Modified victory of the season at Five Mile Point Speedway on Saturday.  Bates started eighth in the 30 lap main event.

The start of the 30 lap Modified feature found Stan Frankenfield and Glenn Knapp on the front row.  At the start Frankenfield pulled out front but all eyes were on Jim Gabriel, Jr. as he powered from his sixth place starting spot to second by lap 3.  Mike Colsten quickly followed Gabriel as he found himself up to third by lap 6 with Bates also in tow.  On lap 7 Bates moved past both Colsten and Gabriel and tried to chase down the high flying Frankenfield.  Gabriel and Colsten had an intense battle for third place as the leaders began to check out from the remainder of the field.

On lap 20 Bates was able to make an inside move and overtake Frankenfield after the duo ran side by side for numerous laps.  The final caution of the event would fly on lap 25 when Chris Ostrowsky slapped the frontstretch wall.  On the restart Bates continued to set a rapid pace out front.  Frankefield now had a battle with Gabriel and ninth place starter Nick Rochinski.  At the stripe Bates would go on for the victory.  Frankenfield secured his best ever FMP finish with second.  Rochinski worked past Gabriel for third.  Chris Wood had another solid outing with a fifth place finish.

Nick Petrilak made it three in a row in the 25 lap Sportsman feature on Saturday night.  Petrilak took the lead on lap 8 from Kenny Titus and never looked back.  Kenny Hammond made a late race charge to secure second place at the strip.  His Hunt Auto teammates Brian White and Eddie White followed him across the line in third and fourth.  Tyler Singleton had a strong run by nabbing the fifth place at the stripe.  For Petrilak the victory was number five on the season.

Jon Carpenter continued his dominance in the Street Stock class by recording another victory.  Carpenter took the lead when race leader Shane Wolf slowed with a flat tire.  Carpenter would be followed across the line by Gene Sharpsteen, John Cooper, Wolf and Rick Davis. The win for Carpenter was his eighth of the season at the quarter mile oval.

Matt Cole took the early race lead in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature event as he was looking for back to back victories.  Matt Roberts had other ideas as he worked from his sixth starting slot and overtook the race leader on lap 17.  Roberts would go on for the eventual win with Cole finishing second.  Gary Roberts finished third with K.C. Cole and Mike Wilmot completing the top five.

It was a buy undercard of racing action with Kenny Underwood taking top honors in the Lightning Cat Expert feature and Nick Kennedy claiming top honors in the Lightning Cat Novice feature.  Mark Andrus swept the action in the Factory Stock and Figure 8 divisions.
