IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY IN PREPARATION OF 2014 RACING SEASON

KIRKWOOD, NY…The facility at Five Mile Point Speedway has certainly been transformed over the past several years.  Improvements continued as the speedway winds down 2013 and looks ahead to a huge 2014 racing season.

Work crews have been busy paving the walkway areas around the turn four bleacher sections making an even nicer setting for race fans attending the action at the quarter mile oval.  Over sixty tons of asphalt was laid down for the walkway sections around the bleachers. Barrett Paving brought in the material with more paving expected to be completed in the concession areas next year.

In recent years Five Mile Point Speedway has basically gone through a complete renovation.  New track lighting, fencing, bleachers, handicapped seating and concession improvements are just a few of the items on the spectator side of the speedway that have taken place in recent years.  The homestretch ramp was put in for victory lane and an opportunity for fans to meet their favorite drivers up close.  The speedway itself has seen the runoff areas in the turns filled in and widened with concrete blocks put in place to make an even wider and faster racing surface.  Five Mile Point Speedway also has foam blocks in the turns for driver safety to ease a potentially hard impact area.

The entire pit area was moved to the backstretch with new bleachers, revamped concession area along with completely new fencing poles and lighting.  This spring a new speedway entrance ramp was put in place off of turn three and just as recently as two weeks ago the backstretch pit area was further extended with hundreds of loads of new fill brought in to make for additional parking and camping.  That process will continue on the backstretch.

At the completion of the Gary’s U-Pull It National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship weekend the speedway will once again be resurfaced with new clay being hauled in.  Five Mile Point Speedway will open the 2014 racing season with two special Sunday events.  On April 6th the Race of Champions Street Stocks and Sportsman will headline the program.  On Sunday, April 13th the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour will be in action.

The Gary’s U-Pull It National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend is next Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd.  You won’t want to miss the best two days in short track dirt racing.
