FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RE:  64th season at Five Mile Point Speedway

FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY SET TO BEGIN 64TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR OF RACING ON SUNDAY, APRIL 6TH.  A HUGE MONTH OF APRIL ON TAP FOR MODIFIEDS AT FMP.

KIRKWOOD, NY…The 64th consecutive year of racing at Five Mile Point Speedway will get underway on Sunday, April 6th with the Race of Champions Sportsman, Race of Champions Street Stocks, Four Cylinders and Factory Stocks.  The remainder of the month will see Modified special events that will pay $5,555, $2,500 and $2,000 to win each leading in to one of the biggest seasons of racing at the popular oval.

The 64th year of racing will certainly see a number of big shows in addition to the great weekly competition the quarter mile oval provides.  The speedway wrapped up their season on November 9th with the 44th running of the Southern Tier 100.  Mike Mahaney became the first - second generation race winner of the event besting Pat Ward and Mike Ricci.  Mike’s dad Jim won the same event twenty-four years prior.

The 2013 Southern Tier 100 was originally slated for November 2nd as the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour finale.  That was washed out with the RoC Championship to now be decided on Sunday, April 13th of 2014 at the quarter mile oval.  The Spring RoC event last year at Five Mile Point Speedway paid $4,000 to win. This year will be 100 laps with a winner’s share of $5,555 up for grabs on April 13th.

Sticking with tradition the Annual Southern Tier Open for Modifieds will take place on Saturday, April 19th paying a minimum of $2,500 to win for just 40 laps of racing.  The official season opening point race for the Modifieds will be on Saturday, April 26th with a 30 lapper paying $2,000 to win.

This year will mark the 50th running of the Heath Memorial on Saturday, June 21st.  The race will pay $3,500 to win plus bonus lap money.  If a Modified track regular with perfect attendance wins the race, the winners share will sky rocket to $5,000 for a 50 lap feature event.  Last year Pat Ward recorded his first ever Heath Memorial victory.  The Modifieds will take center stage again on Wednesday, July 9th with the 64th Anniversary Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour “Night of Qualifiers”.  The race will award Guaranteed Starting spots to other big Modified events throughout the northeast.

Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th will see the American Racer Cup Weekend Open at Five Mile Point Speedway.  On Saturday, the Modified teams will run in a 50 lap event paying $5,000 to win and $500 to take the green.  The American Racer Cup Track Representatives will compete in a 15 lap dash paying $2,000 to win as well that day.  The American Racer Cup Sportsman Track Representatives will have a 15 lap dash on Friday night paying $1,000 to win along with their $2,000 to win RoC tour event.

The 45th running of the Southern Tier 100 will take center stage on Saturday, November 1st as part of the annual National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend.  The night prior on Friday evening the Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman title will be up for grabs along with the RaceSaver 305 Sprint Car Quarter Mile Nationals. The Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinders will join the Friday evening program.

On Saturday, November 1st the 45th Southern Tier 100 will decide the 10th Anniversary Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour title.  The GRIT Series Crate Sportsman Tour title will be up for grabs along with titles for the Empire State Modified Series, RoC Street Stocks and 600 c.c. Modifieds.

It was announced on Friday that the Excel 600 c.c. Modifieds will be a weekly division at the quarter mile oval in 2014.  Their group is led by Doug Borger and they can be contacted directly at 610-681-2689.
