Re:  Open Practice Saturday

First of Two Practice Days This Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway.  Rain Date is Sunday if Needed.

BINGHAMTON, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway will host its first of two practice days at the speedway this Saturday at 2 p.m.  The rain date is this Sunday at 3 p.m. if needed.  The two practice sessions will also serve as a food drive for CHOW.  This will be the 64th consecutive year of racing at the popular southern tier oval.

This past fall the speedway surface went through a major overhaul following the completion of the annual Southern Tier 100.  New clay was hauled in with some areas receiving as much as three feet of new material.  This Saturday both race teams and track crews will benefit from the testing session as all eyes will then turn to the Sunday, April 6th season opener.  Racing that day will begin at 4 p.m.

A number of new teams will be part of a huge 2014 racing season at the speedway and they will certainly be looking for extra track time.  The 2004 racing schedule at the speedway is dotted with special events throughout.  The Sunday, April 6th Season Opener will be highlighted by the Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman and Street Stock Tours. The Excel 600 c.c. Modified Tour will be in action along with the “Tommy Boy 20” for Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders.  The RoC Sportsman 40 will pay $1,500 to win.  There will be a second open practice set for the day prior on Saturday, April 5th.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. this Saturday for the open practice day.  Practice on Saturday will get underway at 2 p.m.  A rain date is set for this Sunday at 3 p.m. if needed.  Grandstand admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item to benefit CHOW.  Pit admission is $20.
