Re: May 24 Results

PERREGO, HAMMOND, PIENIAZEK, CORNELL, ROBERTS, DIMORIER, BAILEY, AND WELCH ALL WINNERS ON MAY 24th AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.

KIRKWOOD, NY...Anthony Perrego notched his first career modified win at Five Mile Point Speedway in thrilling fashion on Saturday night. A last lap pass on the top side found Perrego victorious by a bumper over Jackie Brown, Jr. in the 30 lap feature.  Perrego became the second Modified rookie to win a feature in the past two weeks.  Rookie P.J. Goodwin was a Twin 20 Modified winner the week prior.

The Hunts Auto Service team had continued success on Saturday as Kenny Hammond drove to victory in the 20 lap Sportsman Feature. The CRSA Sprint cars made a stop at the Speedway, where Josh Pieniazek found success on the top side en route to his victory on Saturday. In IMCA Modified Racing James Cornell swept the night after winning the make up feature as well as the regularly scheduled event. The win for Cornell made it 3 on the season at the Speedway in 2014. After a string of second place runs, Matt Roberts won his second consecutive Street Stock feature in 2014. The 600cc Modifieds had a first time Five Mile Point winner in Kailee Dimorierr, while Devon Bailey and Ronnie Welch collected Lightning Cat victories.

Jackie Brown had his first Five Mile Point Modified victory in sight until a turn 4 pass by Anthony Perrego would spoil the night for Brown. Jackie Brown jumped out to the lead on the first lap from his second place starting spot, and led the first 29 laps of the race. Eventual winner Anthony Perrego started the feature in 10th, but by just the second turn on the first lap was up to 5th after some low side passes. In the early stages of the race, Tyler Siri would challenge for numerous laps with Brown for the race lead. The first caution came out on lap 20 and found Jackie Brown the leader over Chris Wood, Anthony Perrego, Tyler Siri and Nick Petrilak. As the restart ensued, Perrego made a quick pass to claim position two from Wood, while Siri moved up to third.

The second and final caution of the night was on lap 24 and still found Brown the leader over Perrego and Siri. In the closing laps Perrego was all over Brown as the two put on a great clean race for the remaining six laps. On the final lap Perrego got a great run off of turn 2 and was able to pull along side of Brown as they raced down the backstretch to the delight of the crowd. Off of turn 4 Perrego found enough room on the outside to pull ahead of Brown and win by the length of a bumper. Siri, Petrilak and Brian Weaver completed the top five.

Josh Pieniazek picked up the CRSA Sprint car 25 lap feature win on Saturday. Scott Goodrich led the opening 10 laps uncontested until the caution came out on lap 10. Pieniazek restarted in second and the two raced hard for the lead until Pieniazek made a turn two pass on the outside to take the lead. In the closing stages, Pieniazek ran away from the field on his way to claiming the victory. Goodrich held on for second, while Dustin Purdy, Jordan Thomas and Jeremy Quick completed the top 5.

The Sportsman division at Five Mile Point Speedway is one of the most competitive in short track racing and they have earned a reputation for non-stop racing.  For the second straight week the 20 lap event went caution free with Kenny Hammond collecting his second win of the season.  Justin Andrews took the lead on the first lap from his second starting place and lead the first 13 laps. On lap 13 the top runners approached lapped traffic where Andrews was unable to find a clear lane around the slower cars. Hammond capitalized and took the lead from Andrews who fell back to second. Hammond led the remaining 7 laps en route to the Sportsman win over Andrews, Brian White, Eddie White, and Mike Wilmot completing the top 5.

The IMCA Modifieds ran two20 lap features on Saturday as the first was a makeup race after being washed out on May 10th.  James Cornell was victorious in both races, collecting win 2 and 3 on the 2014 campaign.  His first victory came in the IMCA Empire State Series race back on April 13th.

Matt Roberts made it 2 in a row in the Street Stocks as he won over Randy Fox, Ryan Stone, Ryan Codington, Kinser Hill, and Darl Ellis Jr.

Kailee Dimorier collected her first career win at the Speedway on Saturday as she held off Kyle Falis, Korey Inglin, Steve Sherwood, and Drew Falis.

In Lightning Cat action Devon Bailey won the expert race, while Ronnie Welch won the Novice feature.

Race notes…the racing action on the quarter mile continues to be outstanding as recent weeks have seen last lap passes for feature wins and limited caution periods in all of the classes…the large crowd showed their appreciation for both the non-stop Sportsman feature and great last lap heroics by Anthony Perrego…The victory for Kailee Dimorier was also well received by the fans…the quarter mile surface was in top notch condition once again providing the CRSA Sprint teams a wide and muilti grooved track as they flirted with the single lap track record on Saturday…This Saturday the Modifieds will have their Spring Championship with $1,500 to win the 30 lap feature event…The Street Stocks will also have twin feature events on Susquehanna, PA Community Night…
