TYLER SIRI NOTCHES FIRST CAREER FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY MODIFIED WIN AND BECOMES SEVENTH DIFFERENT DIVISION WINNER THIS SEASON. BRIAN WHITE CONTINUES SPORTSMAN WIN STREAK AT FOUR. BOUNTY TO BE DECIDED ON WHITE THIS SATURDAY.
KIRKWOOD, NY……Tyler Siri recorded his first ever Five Mile Point Speedway Modified victory on Saturday night. After joining weekly competition a few weeks ago Siri has quickly emerged in to one of the guys to watch in the weekly Modified division. Other winners on Saturday were Brian White (Sportsman), Ryan Stone (Street Stock), Matt Cole (IMCA Modifieds), Kamdin Maby (600 c.c. Modifieds), Kenny Underwood (Lightning Cat Expert), Nick Cicon (Lightning Cat Novice) and Josh Pieniazek (CRSA Sprint Cars).
Pj Goodwin and Barry White brought the Modifieds to the green flag for their 30 lap event on the “Night of Features”. On the opening lap Tyler Siri jumped up form his third place starting spot to grab the lead from Goodwin. In the opening laps, Jamie Batzel followed Siri to the front as he ran in the second position. Siri began to check out from the field in the opening stages of the event until a lap 8 caution haulted the action. On the ensuing restart, Siri was the leader over Batel, Jackie Brown, Nick Petrilak, and Chris Wood completed the top 5.
In the middle going of the race, Brown and Petrilak raced side by side for a number of laps for the second spot as Batzel slid back to fourth. By lap 20 Petrilak was up to second and began his attempt to close in on Siri. The attempts were of no avail by Petrilak as Siri was able to maintain about a 5 car length advantage in the closing laps. The finish saw Siri the winner, Petrilak second, Brown third, Anthony Perrego finished fourth while Mike Colsten rounded out the top 5. Mike Colsten was the winner of the American Racer Tire giveaway.
In victory lane Siri commented on his first ever win at the quarter mile oval, "We made the switch here several weeks ago and love the place, it is the raciest track I have been on, you can run anywhere you want - it has been really enjoyable."
Brian White of Candor, NY continued his dominance in the Sportsman division as he notched his fourth consecutive win at the speedway. White had a $200 bounty placed against him for Saturday’s race, which will now roll over to next Saturday. The early stages of the race found Kirkwood, NY driver Bryan Batzel the leader for the first 13 laps. Travis Smith ran in the second position until Brian White moved up from his 11th starting position. On lap 14, White was able to make the winning move stick as he found an open lane on the bottom to get by Batzel. Batzel’s good run then came to an end as motor problems ended his night. White got the win over Smith, Randy Green, Kenny Hammond, and Brad Weaver completed the top 5. The bounty will grow for this Saturday.
In the Street Stock race, another feature winner was added to the record books this season as Ryan Stone led all 20 laps en route to the win. Stone held of the challenges of young driver Ryan Codington for some 19 laps. John Cooper Jr., Randy Fox and Kinser Hill rounded out the top five. Once again a weekly $100 winners bonus was awarded by Nitro Fabrications.
In the IMCA Modified event, Matt Cole picked up his first win of the season at the speedway. Cole battled for a number of laps with Jake Maynard before getting by for good on lap 17. The win for Cole marked 3 wins in less than a week for the driver, as he was last Sunday at Yates County, Friday at I-88 and Saturday here at the “Point” on Saturday.
The CRSA 305 Sprint Car feature went green to checker as great racing took place at the quarter mile. The 25 lap feature found Josh Pieniazek the winner for his second time at the track this year. After making the pass for the lead on lap 11, Pieniazek held on for the remaining laps en route to the win. The win makes Pieniazek “two for two” in 2014 on the quarter mile oval.
Kamdin Maby was a first time winner as he brought the Wheelers Excavating sponsored 56k to victory lane in the 600cc Modified feature. In the Lightning Cat Expert feature, Kenny Underwood picked up another feature win, while Nick Cicon was a first time feature winner in the Novice class. Mark Andrus found victory lane again in the Factory Stock feature as he drove to victory in thrilling fashion after a long side by side battle with Josh Wilbur.
The next event on the schedule at the speedway is coming up this Saturday the 28th as it will be the 50th running of the Heath Memorial for the Modifieds, along with a full show. Race time Saturday will be 6 p.m.
