KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway will once again play host to the UMP Modified division as part of it's weekly racing program. This will mark the second consecutive year of the UMP sanctioning at the historic ¼ mile oval. The 54th annual season opener will take place on Saturday, May 8th.

The UMP sanctioning for the open wheel division will provide a number of great opportunities for the weekly teams in competition at the Point. Defending Track Champion Jeff Cleveland locked in the UMP state championship last season and pocketed a cool $1,000 bonus from the sanctioning group.

UMP will provide point fund incentives to the top ten drivers in New York State again in 2004. With Five Mile Point Speedway serving as the only sanctioned facility in the state, the top ten weekly drivers will benefit from this fund. The $1,000 UMP bonus will once again go the Five Mile Point Speedway track champion.

Five Mile Point Speedway Promoter Andrew Harpell commented, "The point fund that UMP has put in place is fantastic for the drivers that are going to run at the Point this season." He added, "This type of race car competes at a number of facilities in the state under other sanctions and rules and no one offers up this type of point fund."

The division will be up for grabs this season as well as last years Track Champion Jeff Cleveland has landed a big block Modified ride for this season. This will leave the top spot wide open to any New York State team looking for the state title. Not only will the teams have the opportunity to compete for the point fund they will receive national exposure through one of the largest sanctioning bodies in the nation.
