KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway Track Operator Andrew Harpell has reached an agreement with Lias Tire to make American Race Tires the “official tire” at the historic quarter mile oval. Five Mile Point Speedway opens for its 55th consecutive year of racing on Saturday, April 9th with part one of the Southern Tier Open.
The agreement will put Five Mile Point Speedway on a tire similar to those run throughout many other northeast short tracks. Final plans are being worked out to determine which compounds will be implemented among the five weekly divisions at the Point.
Regarding the announcement Harpell commented, “Our race teams overwhelmingly had a voice in our tire decision for the upcoming 2005 season. Although a number of teams were happy with last years tire program this will ultimately provide teams the opportunity to compete at other area facilities without having to inventory additional tires.”
Local Friday night facilities Afton and Penn Can Speedways also see their competitors running the American Racer tires. This will afford teams to run on back to back nights without having to change all four tire compounds. Harpell added, “Last year was difficult for teams that were on a low budget to run two nights in the southern tier as they were forced to compete on different tires, hopefully our decision will help alleviate that.”
French’s Auto Parts have been named the “official vender” of the American Racers at Five Mile Point Speedway. They can be reached at (607) 774-4500. Trackside Products will remain the official vender at the other southern tier facilities. They can be reached at (607) 748-3322.
