Five Mile Point To Offer "Family Five Pack" In 2006
By Brett Deyo

KIRKWOOD, NY - It's official.

Five Mile Point Speedway is the site for economical family fun in the Southern Tier. FMP promoter/owner Andrew Harpell has introduced a "Family Five Pack" for the 2006 season in an attempt to make attending the track's Saturday-night programs more feasible for families.

In 2006, $30 will get a family two Adult tickets, 3 Youth (ages 13-17) or Kid tickets, plus five hot dogs and five sodas.

It's a total savings of $33 (the "Family Five Pack" deal is not available for special or discounted ticket events).

"Family is a big part of racing at Five Mile Point Speedway," said Harpell, entering his third season in command of the Kirkwood quarter-mile oval.

"I grew up there, and one of the greatest things for me is to see families out enjoying the races on a Saturday night like I did with my own. This 'Family Five Pack' should add to that whole atmosphere."

Five Mile Point's weekly programs include big-block/small-block Modifieds, Sportsman, sanctioned IMCA-Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks.

Racing is scheduled to begin at Five Mile Point on Sun., April 9 with the Southern Tier Open, headlined by a 50-lap, $3,000-to-win open competition event Modified allowing sail panels, open tires (13 x 92-inch), big- or small-blocks (and all things between) on gas or alcohol.

The Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman Tour South Region lid-lifter (40-laps), heldover BRC Lazer Series Late Model event from '05, complete new Late Model program and Pure Stocks will complete the day. Race time is 2 p.m.

Accord (N.Y.) Speedway regular Rich Ricci Jr. won last year's Southern Tier Open over Mike Ricci, Mitch Gibbs, eventual track champion Brian Weaver and Alan Rudalavage.

A practice session is tentatively slated for Sat., April 8 at 2 p.m.

Two more test and tune periods are planned on Sat., April 22 and Sat., April 29 before the official 56th Season Opener gets the point battles underway on Sat., May 6 with a 50-lap Modified feature, plus Sportsman, sanctioned IMCA-Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks.

Other "bargain" nights on the '06 schedule include Sat., May 20 "Pack the Track Night" featuring $1 admission for a show of Sportsman, Pure Stocks, IMCA-Modifieds, Figure Eights, Keystone Legends and 600cc Modifieds and Sat., July 1, offering 2-for-1 grandstand admission for CRSA 305 Sprint Cars, Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Figure Eights and a Fireworks Extravaganza.
