KIRKWOOD, NYFive Mile Point Speedway has added an open practice session for this Saturday, April 1st between 1 and 5 p.m. Track crews worked the speedway racing surface this past Friday and the track is ready to go. Grandstand admission will be free with the donation of a canned good to the area CHOW food pantries.
For the 18th consecutive season Dan Harpell took to the speedway surface and got it race ready for the 56th season of racing at the famed quarter mile oval. Five Mile Point Speedway owner/operator Andrew Harpell commented, “We were fortunate to get an opportunity to get the track prepared this past Friday. "It can rain for the entire week and we'll be fine. The surface is that good," Harpell added.
Last fall the speedway was resurfaced with heavy clay prior to the Race of Champions Weekend in October. The surface was reworked prior to the November 5th Southern Tier Showdown for Pure Stocks and the R.o.C Sportsman finale back on November 6th. Harpell remarked, “The surface was great for those final two events with lots of bite. Being able to get those two races in on the new surface really gave us a jump start on 2006.”
The open practice this Saturday, April 1st will take place between 1 and 5 p.m. and is open to all divisions competing at Five Mile Point Speedway in 2006. French’s Auto Parts will have tires available on site for all divisions and the Doug’s Speed Shop trailer will be open as well.
Grandstand admission will be absolutely free of charge with the donation of a canned good. Pit gates will swing open the 2006 racing season at 11 a.m. For additional information please contact the speedway office at (607) 775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net .
