FIVE MILE POINT
Grandstand admission will be free for spectators that bring along a canned good or non-perishable item to benefit CHOW. Gates will open at 1:00 p.m. for the four hour testing session.
The race teams are excited to get on the speedway surface in preparation of the 59th consecutive year of racing at the quarter mile oval. Many new teams took shape during the winter months as the competition should be at an all-time high.
Defending Modified Track Champion Brian Weaver will be driving for a new team in 2009. Long time car owner Randy Decker brought a new driver to the table in the familiar number 9r Modified that Weaver drover to the title in 2005 and last season. Longtime driver Jim Gabriel, Jr. will be behind the wheel of the Decker owner 9r and they are hoping to take advantage of the extra testing time on Sunday. Gabriel remarked, “Anytime you are working with a new team you want that extra seat time prior to the season. The testing session should help.”
The 2009 race season gets the green flag on Saturday, April 18th with the running of the Southern Tier Open. For additional information please log on to the official Five Mile Point Speedway website at www.fivemilepointspeedway.net or phone the speedway offices at (607) 775-5555. Make it a point to get to the Point in 2009!
