FIRST FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY PRACTICE A BIG SUCCESS. SECOND PRACTICE DAY THIS SATURDAY AT 1 P.M.
Grandstand admission will be free for spectators that bring along a canned good or non-perishable item to benefit CHOW. Gates will open at 12:00 noon for the four hour testing session.
Over 50 race teams were on hand for the Sunday afternoon testing after a rainy cold start to the weekend. Teams were excited about the new surface and wider speedway as the Modifieds were turning lap times just three tenths of a second off the Modified track record. Jim Gabriel, Jr. aboard his new Modified ride (the Randy Decker owned 9r) set an unofficial fast lap time for the day.
When the action turns to nighttime the speedway should be very, very quick. The quarter mile surface was ultra smooth despite the weekend rains that made track prep a bit tricky for the testing session.
Boxes of canned good items were put together to donate to CHOW as once again the race fans showed their generosity. Over $400 was raised for the Mike Stolarcyk, III Childrens Education Fund. Chris Zacharias donated number III decals that were sold throughout the afternoon by Modified driver Glenn Knapp and his family
Practice continues this Saturday at 1 p.m. as teams get their final opportunity to get their cars dialed in prior to the April 18th season opener.
The 2009 race season gets the green flag on Saturday, April 18th with the running of the Southern Tier Open.
