April 10th, 2005
KIRKWOOD, NY…The management from Five Mile Point Speedway has recently announced the addition of an open practice session from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. this Friday, April 15th. The practice will allow teams to shake down their race cars prior to the big Southern Tier Open weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
The practice is open to teams competing at the speedway in 2005 and will help both the teams and track crews assess the proper changes they need to make for the Southern Tier Open. Track crews have been busy preparing the speedway for the 2005 season with a brand new track surface and a sweeping expansion in turns one and two.
The cost to enter the pit area for the practice session is $20. Grandstand admission is free with the donation of a canned good or any monetary donation to area CHOW food pantries.
All of the pre-season excitement is building up to the Southern Tier Open at Five Mile Point Speedway this Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the Patrirot Sprints will do battle in their first event of 2005. They will be joined on the card by the Sportsman and Pure Stocks in open competition events. Racing gets underway at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, the Modifieds will battle it out in a 50 lapper paying $3,000 to the winner. The open format will allow for sail panels and any 92 x 13 tire in the Modified race. The Street Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks and IMCA type Modifieds will also compete in open shows. Race time on Sunday is 2 p.m.
