KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway is set for the annual Southern Tier Open for Modifieds this Sunday, April 17th. The 50 lap special will pay $3,000 to the winner. Race time is set for 2 p.m.
A star studded field of Modified drivers are expected to converge on the quarter mile oval for the traditional open event this Sunday. Last year Mitch Gibbs backed up his National Quarter Mile 100 win with the victory in the 50 lap “Open”. Gibbs was followed across the line by Meme DeSantis, Rick Virkitis, Rich Keehle Jr. and Bob Savoie.
The historic event has seen a list of past winners second to none. Just a few of the stars that have won this event in the past include Don Beagell Jr., Gerald Chamberlin, Jack Johnson, Ivan Little and Stan Ploski.
The 50 lap open event will allow for teams to run sail panels, alcohol and any 92 x 13 inch tire. It will certainly be an old fashioned shootout as a diverse field is expected to be on hand.
Joining the Modifieds on the card will be the Street Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks and IMCA type Modifieds in their own open competition events. Last year over 125 teams converged on Five Mile Point Speedway for the Southern Tier Open.
