KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway will be hosting the first of two practice days next Saturday, April 24th. For spectators, grandstand admission will be absolutely free with the donation of a canned good to benefit CHOW. Practice for the race teams begins at 2 p.m.
The two practice days scheduled for next Saturday and May 1st will lead up to the 54th Annual Season Opener on May 8th. Teams are anxious to take advantage of track time as the speedway surface has been re-shaped. Additional clay has also been brought on to the racing surface and for the first time in several years the cars will be competing on Hoosier Racing Tires.
A large number of teams are expected to attend the practices to try and get their cars set up for the season opening night. Fans are welcomed to come out and see the new upgrades and improvements at the facility. Grandstand admission is free throughout the day with the donation of a canned good to benefit CHOW. Drop-off barrels will be placed by CHOW representatives at the main grandstand gates.
"Many of us often donate clothing and food around the holiday season, but the need for canned goods and non-perishable items last throughout the year for CHOW," commented speedway operator Andrew Harpell. "We are happy to work with and help our local charities whenever we can," he added.
Practice will take place between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on both next Saturday and May 1st. The grandstands will be open the entire day for spectators that want to get a sneak peak as the drivers test their new race machines for the upcoming season.
The opening day excitement in the southern tier is already reaching high levels as fans look forward to May 8th at Five Mile Point Speedway. For additional information please phone the Five Mile Point Speedway offices at (607) 775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net for more information.
