LITTLE LEAGUE NIGHT PART OF 59TH
OPENING NIGHT FESTIVITIES THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.
With the practice days and the 16th Southern Tier Open in the record books the official 59th season gets underway this Saturday night. The speedway will now be hosting racing every weekend throughout the remainder of the 2009 season.
The Modified Track Championship will be up for grabs but
History could again repeat itself in the 2009 Modified point race opener. Last season Pat Ward invaded the quarter mile for the first point race and picked up the win. Canadian Stewart Friesen looks to return to the quarter mile this Saturday in the Scott Brady number 77 Modified. Brady will step aside from the ride for a few weeks while he tends to a past shoulder injury.
The Modified Track Championship could be the most hotly contested in years. Weekly stars like Tom McGurrin, J.R. Crouse, J.R. Hurlburt, Mike Colsten, Gary Griffin, Ken Titus, Brent Wilcox, Joey Grammes, Tim Votra, James Cornell, Brian Malcolm, Glenn Knapp and many, many more will be gunning for the title honors.
Joining the Modified 30 lap opener will also be the season opening show for the IMCA Modified division. Two-time Track Champion Gary Roberts was dominate in 2008 and will be looking for the “three-peat” in the IMCA division. Joining those two divisions will be the Pure Stocks, Sportsman, Lightning Cats and A League of Their Own.
This Saturday night French’s Auto Parts will be sponsoring all of the action. For the youngsters this Saturday will be the annual Little League Night. Youngsters in their Little League uniform along with their parents will be admitted free. Little Leaguers need to register at the ticket booth upon entering the speedway so that they can be recognized over the public address system. Area coaches are also encouraged to send their rosters to the speedway offices so that their teams can be recognized.
The Five Mile Point Speedway Family Five Pack will be in effect this Saturday night. The ticket package includes 2 adult, 3 youth, senior or child grandstand tickets along with five hot dogs and five sodas for only $30. This is a savings of over $30 off the regular pricing.
