FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY TO OFFICIALLY OPEN 55TH SEASON OF RACING THIS SATURDAY NIGHT WITH A 50 LAP MODIFIED SPECIAL.

KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway will officially get the 55th season of racing underway this Saturday night with a 50 lap Modified special event. The race will serve as the first official point race of the season. Also on the card will be the Sportsman, Street Stocks, FMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Race time is 6 p.m.

The competition this season at Five Mile Point Speedway looks the strongest it has in recent memory in all racing divisions. The Modified class alone looks to see a number new or returning teams that have logged multi feature wins throughout their careers.

Two drivers at the top of that list include local stars Mike Colsten and Brian Weaver. Colsten is among the winningest drivers in Five Mile Point Speedway history and Weaver brings with him an impressive credentials list throughout the Southern Tier. Weaver will be looking to capture his first ever Five Mile Point Speedway track championship in the Modified division.

Rich Ricci Jr., made a successful invasion by winning the Southern Tier open at Five Mile Point Speedway just a few weeks ago. Ricci, a former competitor at the Lebanon Valley Speedway is looking to make Five Mile Point Speedway his home in 2005. Ricci is considered to be one of the best short track specialists in all of dirt track racing. Another one of those short track specialists include Robbie Green, Jr. Green is making a return at Five Mile Point Speedway after a several year absence. The second generation Wallkill, NY driver has seen a lot of success at the Accord and Orange County Fair Speedways over his career.

Although his Southern Tier Open outing was disappointing Don Hart, Jr. was the master of extra distance events at Five Mile Point Speedway last year. His wins in those races paved the way to the ’04 Modified Championship. Hart will be looking to start things off strong again this year. The competition will be extremely tough as former Track Champion Jim Crawn, Rich Keehle and J.R Crouse all have new equipment for the upcoming season.

Along with the Modified 50 lap special the Sportsman, Street Stocks, FMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks will all be in competition. Race time this Saturday night for the 55th Season Opener is 6 p.m. For additional information please contact the speedway offices at (607) 775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net for more.
