50 LAP BIG BLOCK/SMALL BLOCK VICTORIA ALL-STAR QUALIFIER TO JUMP START 2004 FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY SEASON OPENER.

KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway is set to begin its 54th consecutive year of racing this Saturday night. The season will get underway with a 50 lap special event for the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds. The event will also serve as a “Victoria 200 All-Star Race Qualifier”. Race time is set for 6:30 p.m.

The 50 lap season opener will see an anticipated large turnout of Modifieds as they begin the pursuit of the 2004 point championship battle. The Modified Track Champion will earn a minimum $4,000 for their title in the season long point battle. Last season the “Point” averaged the highest Modified car count in the southern tier and that feat is expected to be easily reached again.

A number of new Modified teams are looking to do battle with the stars from last season as they gear up for this Saturday night’s 50 lap shootout. Just a few of the new drivers that have indicated they will call Five Mile Point Speedway their home are: Kirk Horton, Jim Mahaney, Brian Malcom, Mark Plummer and Joel Batzel along with several others. Horton has campaigned at speedways throughout the northeast and has had strong success at Orange County Fair Speedway along with other southern tier speedways. Mahaney, is a former winner of the Five Mile Point Speedway –Binghamton Pepsi-Cola National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship. Mahaney has been known for many years as one of the toughest Small Block Modified drivers at Fulton and Utica-RomeSpeedways.

The new drivers will have to do battle with a tough group of Five Mile Point Speedway regulars. The weekly drivers showed their fortitude when they dominated the fall open 50 lap special at the speedway.

In addition to the 50 lap special there will be complete programs for the Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Keystone Legends Cars. For the Keystone Legends, this will be their first of three events at the Point in 2004.

All of the racing this Saturday will be sponsored by Saturn of Binghamton. Race time is set for 6:30 p.m. For additional information please contact the Five Mile Point Speedway offices at (607)775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net for more.
