Five Mile Point Rains Out For May 20; Reschedules "Pack the Track Night" for This Wed., May 24

Five Mile Point Speedway's Giant Markets "Pack the Track Night" for Sat., May 20 has been canceled due to steady rain and an ominous forecast.

But don't spend that dollar on a cup of coffee just yet.

FMP owner/promoter Andrew Harpell has rescheduled a modified version of the $1 grandstand admission event for this Wed., May 24 at the quarter-mile oval.

On the card for the midweek special will be Modifieds in a 15-lap Southern Tier Star Showdown Invitational, plus the heldover IMCA-Modified feature from Sat., May 13, a second full program for the IMCA Modifieds and full shows for the Pure Stocks and 99.1 The Whale Figure Eights. The 600cc Modifieds will also be on hand for a 12-lap exhibition event.

Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m., with grandstand gates opening at 4 p.m. Open practice will run from 4 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. and will be FREE for drivers NOT competing in that night's events. Drivers already racing that night will be able to take advantage of the extended practice. Racing will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

"I plan to have this entire show done by 9 p.m. at the latest," said FMP promoter Andrew Harpell, who intends to keep the event "pure entertainment" for new fans taking advantage of the reduced admission rate.

The Sportsman WILL NOT be in competition, while the Keystone Legends have been rescheduled for Sat., Sept. 2. An additional 600cc Modified show is slated for Wed., Aug. 9.

"Most of our Sportsman teams tow from two-plus hours away," said Harpell. "So I don't want to have them drive up here on such short notice.

"Having the Modified Southern Tier Star Invitational, we'll be able to showcase some of our top local names to the fans."
