KIRKWOOD, NY…This Saturday night Five Mile Point Speedway will hold the 40th Annual Heath Memorial at the speedway. The Big Block/Small Block Modifieds will do battle in a 54 lap event paying $2,000 to win along with bonus lap money. A big night of racing will get underway at 6:00 p.m.

The Heath Memorial has traditionally been called the Irv Heath Memorial event in honor of track founder Irv Heath. Mr. Heath built the speedway in 1951 and it remains one of the longest consecutively run facilities in the nation. His passing in 1965 led to the first ever race in his honor that season. Last summer Mr. Heath’s daughter Sandra passed away after an extended illness. She played an instrumental role in the operation of the speedway over the years including organizing and running the pit concession stand along with serving in many different capacities at the speedway.

Sadly, track owner Anna Heath passed away on March 2nd. Without her work and dedication to the speedway, drivers and spectators the facility would not be in existence today. The event is now appropriately named the Heath Memorial to honor all of the family members that made racing at the historic ¼ mile oval possible.

This Saturday night the 40th Annual Heath Memorial will once again feature the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds. They will be competing in a 54 lap event paying $2,000 to the winner. There is also a $500 bonus up for grabs for any driver with perfect attendance in the Modified division should they win. Lap leader money will also be posted based on sponsorships of $50 per lap.

Bonus money will also be up for grabs for any driver in the Sportsman, UMP Modified, Street Stocks and Pure Stock divisions with perfect attendance. If any driver with perfect attendance in those divisions can win their feature they will receive a $200 bonus. $15 lap sponsorships are also available and will be awarded to drivers based on sponsorships sold.

The action will be non-stop this Saturday as the Sportsman, UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Legends will be in competition. In addition, the race program will start off with the held-over Legends feature from the opening night rainout. Seven feature events will be on tap as fans will once again get to enjoy non-stop racing action at the Point.

Along with the racing program there will be a former racers reunion at the speedway. Former Five Mile Point Speedway drivers gather each year at the Heath Memorial to share stories and do a little bench racing in the downstairs suite.

With the huge program of racing scheduled for this Saturday night, racing will get underway at 6:00 p.m.– one half hour earlier than normal. For additional information please contact the Five Mile Point Speedway offices at (607) 775-5555 or log on to for more.
