KIRKWOOD, NY…The staff of Five Mile Point Speedway has announced the birth of the Sportsman Challenge Cup to take place Saturday, July 3rd. The event will send a challenge out to the top Sportsman drivers in the northeast in what will become an annual event at the quarter mile oval. The Sportsman will do battle in a 50 lap event paying $750 to win with a $200 bonus available to any non-guaranteed starter should they win. Race time is 6:30 p.m.
The Sportsman Challenge Cup will pit the top drivers in the northeast to determine who will become the first ever Cup winner. The event is open to all D.I.R.T legal Sportsman teams competing on the Five Mile Point Speedway track Hoosier Tires or to teams competing on D.I.R.T legal sportsman Hoosier Tires.
The top five drivers in Five Mile Point Speedway, Orange County Fair Speedway and Afton Fair Speedway current point standings after the weekend of June 25, 26 and 27 will be guaranteed starters for the race. Also the top five Sportsman drivers from Moc-A-Tek Speedway will be guaranteed starters. These Moc-A-Tek drivers are: Rick Raisner, Eric Palmer, Archie Meyers III, Greg Morgan and Teddy Stout. Thirty Sportsman teams will start the 50 lap Challenge Cup event.
Traditionally, everyone loves an underdog so Five Mile Point Speedway will be offering up a $200 winners bonus if the driver was not one of the above mentioned guaranteed starters. This would take the winners share to $950. The event will see teams drawing for heat position and then the top 12 qualifiers will re-draw for the feature lineup. The remainder of the field will be “heads up”.
For spectators this big night of racing will be priced at a huge discount. All tickets will be available at a “buy one get one free” discount for this event. Along with the 50 lap Sportsman event fans will be treated to complete shows for the Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds, Pure Stocks along with the return of the Figure 8’s. The night will be capped off with a huge fireworks display.
Five Mile Point Speedway Sportsman teams are ready to defend their home turf for the first ever Sportsman Challenge Cup. This event will be an annual race each year on the fourth of July weekend and the only question that remains is who will be the first ever winner of the Five Mile Point Speedway Sportsman Challenge Cup?
