RACE OF CHAMPIONS DIRT MODIFIED TOUR DOUBLE HEADER THIS WEDNESDAY, JULY 12TH AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.

KIRKWOOD, NY -

The Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour will swing to Five Mile Point Speedway this Wednesday, July 12th for a double header. The Modifieds will compete in a 75 lap event paying $4,000 to the winner and the Sportsman will do battle in a 40 lapper paying $1,000 to win. Both events are north region tour races with the action set to go green at 7:30 p.m.

The Race of Champions Dirt Tour looks like a repeat of last season as Mitch Gibbs currently shows the way in the point standings over Bobby Varin. Brett Hearn, Jerry Higbie and Matt DeLorenzo are currently in the top five in the standings. Over one hundred different teams have competed in the first three north regional R.o.C Modified Tour events.

The R.o.C North Sportsman Tour has only seen one event so far this season. That race took place at the Utica Rome Speedway back on Memorial Day weekend. Steve Way was the winner followed by Mike Button, Kyle Lewis, Tim Nye and Billy Shantel.

The R.o.C double header should prove to be a thriller at the famed quarter mile. In the Modifieds Mitch Gibbs is the current point leader at Five Mile Point Speedway and he will be looking to utilize his home track knowledge in the 75 lapper. Defending Five Mile Point Speedway Track Champion Brian Weaver won the R.o.C mid-summer stop last summer at the Point and is fresh off a tour win at the Albany Saratoga Speedway.

Historically the local teams have always had a history of being tough to beat at Five Mile Point Speedway. The new wider racing surface will certainly provide for some fantastic racing. So far this season there have been seven different feature winners including: Gibbs, Weaver, Joey Grammes, James Cornell, Brian Malcolm, Gary Griffin and Rich Ricci, Jr. A number of weekly Modified drivers are winless in 2006 but canít be counted out this Wednesday. First year driver Mike Doty has been impressive this season as he continues to rack up top five finishes. Former Track Champion Jim Crawn is back after being sidelined from recovering from surgery. J.R. Crouse, Glenn Knapp, Rich Keehle, Doug Hendricks and many other local stars are certainly capable of pulling off the big win.
