KIRKWOOD, NY - The massive field of 39 Modifieds that signed into Five Mile Point Speedway last Saturday night meant 15 cars sat idle when the feature rolled onto the historic quarter-mile. The drivers who didn't make the cut will have an opportunity to ensure a spot in this week's headline event through a 10-lap Guaranteed Starters Race that will kick off Saturday's (July 16) program of Modifieds, Sportsman, FMP Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks.
The top two finishers in the Guaranteed Starters Race will earn a starting berth in the Modified main, regardless of their performance in the heat or consolation event. Fourteen drivers are eligible for the event (J.R. Crouse attempted to qualify two cars).
"The Guaranteed Starters Race is a great deal for the racers in two respects," said Five Mile Point promoter Andrew Harpell. "Of course, it gives drivers an opportunity to race for the two guaranteed spots, but it also provides some extra track time for inexperienced drivers or teams looking to dial in their cars."
Earlier this season, Pennsylvania veterans Barry White and Jeff Emanuel recorded Guaranteed Starters Race victories. Both drivers made it into last Saturday's feature event, meaning a new face will visit FMP Victory Lane.
This Saturday will be Armed Forces Night at the Point, with all military personnel admitted into the grandstands free of charge with identification. Race time is 6:30 p.m. sharp.
