SATURDAY NIGHT (8/26) RACING PROGRAM CANCELED AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY. SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP AND FIREWORKS NEXT SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND. FINAL POINT RACE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH.

KIRKWOOD, NY -

Racing at Five Mile Point Speedway is canceled for Saturday, August 26th. Racing will resume next Saturday, September 2nd with a huge fireworks show and season Championship night. Race time is 6 p.m.

Racing was canceled on Saturday due to a combination of heavy overnight rain on Friday and a continued threat of persistent rain due to a stationary front in the northeast.

Five Mile Point Speedway owner/operator Andrew Harpell said, “We have so many teams that travel over two hours just to race weekly with us, it obviously becomes difficult to make them travel here only to be rained out.” He added, “We certainly made an early decision to cancel to help everyone plan accordingly.”

The 2006 point championships will now come down to next two Saturday nights. This Saturday night September 2nd will see championship awards distributed. The Modifieds will compete in a 50 lapper with extra distance races also slated for all classes. The Keystone Legends cars will also be in action for the final time as well. A huge fireworks show is slated along with the annual Labor Day Weekend post race bonfire and barbeque on the backstretch. Race time is 6 p.m.

Several weeks ago the season was extended one week to Saturday, September 9th. This night will serve as the final point race for the Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks. The IMCA Modifieds will have an open show. The 99.1 the Whale Figure 8’s will also return to action this night. For spectators it will be a huge night as well. All kids 17 years old and younger will be admitted free of charge. There will be kiddie rides prior to the racing and all EMT’s and Fireman with I.D. will be admitted free of charge. Race time is 6 p.m.

The new “Lightning Cats” and “A League of Their Own” will be in competition on each night as well. The Lightning Cats are a four cylinder stock division designed for entry level racers. “The League of Their Own” will see the ladies of racing take to the speedway in the same cars. Both races will be held weekly at the completion of the regular racing program.
