FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY RAINED OUT FOR THIRD WEEK IN A ROW. SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT RESCHEDULED FOR THIS MONDAY (LABOR DAY) AT 4 P.M. MODIFIED 50 LAPPER TO HIGHLIGHT MAJOR DAY OF RACING.

KIRKWOOD, NY -

Rain has wreaked havoc with the Five Mile Point Speedway racing schedule once again. Tonight's Season Championship night has been rescheduled for this Monday at 4 p.m. The racing card will be highlighted with a 50 lap Modified feature event.

Today's rainout is the third consecutive for the historic quarter mile oval in 2006. The rainy summer has caused a number of schedule changes throughout the summer and scrambled the point races. A lack of point events warranted the rescheduling of the event to Monday.

Racing this Monday will get underway at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 2 p.m. The Modifieds will compete in a 50 lap event. The Sportsman, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will also be competing in point races with "Championship points" being awarded. The IMCA Modifieds will be in competition in a non-point show as the points are final per IMCA rules. The new Lightning Cat and "A League of Their Own" divisions will run features only at the completion of the racing program.

Mitch Gibbs leads the way in the Modified point standings chase over J.R. Crouse. The point race is expected to come down the final point race this Saturday, September 9th at Five Mile Point Speedway. The point battles in all the classes are some of the closest in recent memory.

The Sportsman point chase is a nail biter as the top five drivers are separated by only 33 points. The entire complexity of the championship race in the Sportsman division can be changed among the top five drivers. Currently Brad Grim and Butch Klinger are tied for the point lead in the Sportsman class with Eric Palmer, Jesse Kline and Shawn Walker all in the chase.

The current Street Stock point chase is another extremely close battle. The top five drivers in this class are only separated by 52 points. Les Gillette maintains a four point lead over Jerry Tonti as the battle will continue on Monday.

Current Pure Stock point leader Charlie Gilbert has the most comfortable point lead of all the divisions. Even though he Gilbert maintains a 68 point lead he has not locked up the title.

Mike Stolaryck, III is the official IMCA Modified Track Champion for this season. Due to IMCA sanctioning restrictions points are not allowed to be awarded after September 3rd for the division.

Racing on Monday will get underway at 4 p.m with gates opening at 2 p.m. The Modifieds will do battle in a 50 lap race along with extra distance shows for the Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and IMCA Modifieds. The Lightning Cats and "A League of Their Own" will conclude the action.
