KIRKWOOD, NY.....The long running tradition of the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship is once again set to take place at Five Mile Point Speedway. This year the event will span over two days – Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th. Five season long series titles will be determined over the course of the two days.
Action will get underway on Friday with a three division program that will draw the final hands in the season long tours for the BRC Late Models, Race of Champions Sportsman and T3 – 358 Modified Series. The R.o.C Sportsman will compete in a 40 lapper that will pay $1,000 to win and determine the first ever R.o.C dirt Sportsman Champion. The BRC Late Model Series will compete in a 30 lap feature also to determine their champion. This will be the first time that the Late Models have stopped at the Point in a number of years. The T3 – 358 Modified Series will culminate their season long tour with a 50 lap event. In August, Mitch Gibbs held off Danny Johnson for the win in the inaugural T3 event at Five Mile Point Speedway.
Saturday will be highlighted with the running of the Southern Tier 100 – Race of Champions Modified Tour point finale. Five Mile Modified Track Champion Brian Weaver will be looking to repeat his victory in the July Race of Champions event. Weaver is currently only fourteen points behind current Race of Champions Dirt point leader Bobby Varin and only three markers behind Mitch Gibbs. Jerry Higbie, Jr. and Ronnie Johnson round out the top five in the current R.o.C standings.
The Saturday program will also see the final point race in the I.M.C.A Modified Empire State Championship Series. The I.M.C.A teams will do battle in a 30 lap feature event that will decide their championship. The Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will round out the Saturday program.
The National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will have something for everyone as no speedway has seen this many tour championships being decided on one weekend. Racing on Friday will get underway at 7:00 p.m. with the Saturday action set to go green at 5:00 p.m.
