GUARANTEED STARTERS RACE TO GET THINGS UNDER WAY FOR 36TH RUNNING OF THE SOUTHERN TIER 100 AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY NEXT SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH. RACE TO FEATURE NON-QUALIFIED CARS FROM PENN CAN COMBINATION EVENT.

KIRKWOOD, NY - The phrase "little guy" is thrown around a lot in short track racing but with the Race of Champions Tour an honest attempt is made to help the teams that are low dollar operations or even had some bad luck at the last event. Five Mile Point Speedway will start off the Southern Tier 100 event next Saturday (October 14th) with the Guaranteed Starters race. This event will see two drivers transferring into the 100 lap special before any qualifying even takes place.

The guaranteed starters race was established at Five Mile Point Speedway on a weekly basis and on the Race of Champions Modified Tour in 2005. The race takes all of the non-qualified teams from the prior event and put them into their own race before qualifying even takes place. Two drivers will transfer into the 100 without even having to attempt to run a heat race.

The two drivers that transfer out of the Guaranteed Starters race will still have an opportunity to qualify through heat races in order to better their feature starting position. Per Race of Champions rules, a minimum of eight teams from the last held event must be in attendance for the race to take place. What makes this scenario unique is that due to the recent Fonda Speedway rainout the majority of the teams eligible for this race are area race teams.

Penn Can Speedway hosted the last R.o.C Modified Combination event and 31 teams failed to qualify for the 100 lap feature event. That leaves the possibility of a very exciting Guaranteed Starters race. If a large number of these teams do enter the Southern Tier 100, two Guaranteed Starters races will be held. Currently the lineups are based on two races and would be adjusted accordingly in the event a number of teams failed to attend.

R.O.C GUARANTEED STARTERS RACE LINEUP 1: Billy Decker, Chris Shupp, Billy Thorton, Jason Hamilton, MeMe DeSantis, Jim Crawn, Bill Reese, Chris Ostrowsky, JR Hurlburt, Gary Hager, Bill Miller, Alan Kellogg, Bill Jenkins, Eric Bonham, Jon Keller, Mike Doty.

R.O.C GUARANTEED STARTERS RACE LINEUP 2: Scott Frack, Brent Wilcox, Brett Tonkin, Bob Trapper, Wade Decker, Darwin Greene, John Lutes Jr., Amanda Spotts, Mike Ketchum, Dave Jenkins, Ken Eckert Jr., Steve Walsh, Bill Huff, Jim Gabriel Jr., Mike Nagel.

These two races could certainly be interesting and a great way to start off one of the oldest traditions in racing - the Southern Tier 100 at Five Mile Point Speedway. The weekend gets underway on Friday with the Race of Champions Sportsman Tour 40 lap finale, The T3 358 Modified Series finale and the Northeast Pure Stock Championship. Race time on Friday is 7 p.m. On Saturday racing will get underway at 5 p.m. with the Guaranteed Starter races to be held first along with the Southern Tier 100 Race of Champions finale, IMCA Modified Empire State Series and Trackside Products Pro Stock Series finale.
