B & D EXHAUST SOUTHERN TIER CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR SPORTSMAN, STREET STOCKS, GRAND AM./IMCA MODS AND FOUR CYL STOCKS THIS SATURDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY

KIRKWOOD, NY…The rescheduled B&D Exhaust Southern Tier Championships for Sportsman, Street Stocks, Grand American/IMCA Modifieds and Four Cylinder Stocks will take place this Saturday, October 12th at Five Mile Point Speedway. Race time is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Sportsman will headline the show with a 50 lapper paying $1,000 to win. The Street Stocks will compete in a STAR Series Championship event paying $750 to win. The Grand American/IMCA Modifieds will battle it out for $500 to win and the Four Cylinder Stocks will also battle in a STAR Series Championship event for $300 to win.

The race was originally scheduled to kick off the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend on September 27th but all day rain proved to be the winner on that night. The big event traditionally draws an outstanding field of cars.

Last year Don Hart, Jr. took the Sportsman win over Butch Klinger, Chad Cook, Mike Schane and Tim French. Brett Spoor took home top honors in the Street Stock feature over Ed McKernan, John Glezen, Glen Wilcox and Ron Latwinski. Gil Sharpsteen won the Grand American Modified feature over Joe Price, Jr., Bob Chapman, Dick Scutt and Jason Makosky. Don Cole was the Four Cylinder Stock winner over Ed Hulslander, Shawn Mills, Brian Evandon and Rich Powell. Look for many of those drivers and plenty more to go to battle again this Saturday night.

This Saturday’s show kicks off a busy late October schedule at the Point. The following Friday and Saturday, October 18th and 19th, the historic quarter mile oval will play host to the season ending Southern Tier Open Weekend. Friday’s show will consist of open shows for the 360 Sprints, Sportsman and Grand American/IMCA Modifieds.

The weekend will conclude on Saturday with the 50 lap Southern Tier Open for Big Block and Small Block Modifieds along with STAR Series Championship events for the Pure Stocks and Four Cylinder Stocks. The rain date for these shows is set for Sunday, October 20th if needed. That show will bring down the curtain on the 2002 racing season at the Point.

The track will then play host to its 11th annual Racer’s Flea Market on Saturday, November 2nd. The Flea Market is a great place to pick up or sell cars, parts, tools or other racing goods.

There is still plenty of racing ahead in October at Five Mile Point Speedway. It all gets started this Saturday, October 12th with the B & D Exhaust Southern Tier Championships for the Sportsman, Street Stocks, Grand American/IMCA Modifieds and Four Cylinder Stocks. Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m., grandstand gates at 4:00 p.m. and race time is 6:00 p.m.

Five Mile Point Speedway is located at the intersection of routes 17 and 81 in Kirkwood, New York, near Binghamton. For further information, please call the speedway office at 607-775-5555 or log onto our website at www.fivemilepointspeedway.net.
