KIRKWOOD, NY.....Jason Hamiltonís nerves will have to endure three more weeks after unexpected rains postponed Sundayís Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman Tour finale at Five Mile Point Speedway.
Hamilton's shot to clinch the RoC Dirt Sportsman Tour title won't come until Sun., Nov. 6 when the Sportsman stars do battle in a 40-lap, $1,000-to-win main.
The T3 All-Star Series 358-Modifieds and BRC Lazer Series Late Models will also decide their '05 champs when the twice-postponed program goes green at 2 p.m. Gates open at 11:30 a.m., with practice slated for 1 p.m.
The three-division card was scheduled to kick off Five Mile Point's National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend on Fri., Oct. 14. Rain nixed that plan and the show was moved to Sunday.
However, significant winds and heavy lake-effect showers forced RoC Dirt administrative director/FMP promoter Andrew Harpell to reschedule the show for the second time. "You just never know, it (Nov. 6) might be shorts weather," said Harpell, shortly after pulling the plug at 9:30 a.m. "That's the most feasible date right now, after looking over the schedule of remaining races in the area."
Hamilton, of Erwinna, Pa., takes a 25-point lead into the ninth event of the RoC Dirt Sportsman Tour. Arnie Slade, Kyle Weiss, Shaun Walker and Jeff Geiges round out the top five.
