Race of Champions Titles
Up For Grabs During National Quarter Mile Dirt Track
For Immediate Release
Re: RoC Dirt
On Friday evening Jeff Crambo will try and lock up the RoC Dirt Sportsman Tour Title for the second consecutive season. Crambo, a weekly competitor at Five Mile Point Speedway rallied late in the season on the RoC Tour to overtake the lead entering this Friday’s 100 lap finale. Crambo currently leads Sammy Piazza (366 – 339 points) in the race for the championship. Former Five Mile Point Speedway Modified driver James Cornell is currently in third with 304 points with Brad Szulewski (243) and Clay Butler (201) completing the top five.
The Friday 100 lapper is one of the richest paying events for the Sportsman teams anywhere in the northeast. The race winner will earn a cool $2,555 for the victory along with a guaranteed starting spot in the Saturday 100 lap event for Modifieds. The Friday Sportsman 100 will also pay an outstanding $200 to take the green. Teams from all over the northeast are expected to converge on the quarter mile for this season ending event.
Joining the Friday program will be the Trackside Products Race of Champions Street Stock tour. The event on Friday will pay $750 to the race winner. The race originally scheduled to be the tour finale will now be a lead up to the finale scheduled at Penn Can Speedway on Sunday, November 13th after their event recently rained out. Bob Buono leads the way in the Street Stock standings over opening day winner Brenton Miller (330 to 305). Dave Pope (230), Buck Mills (224) and Rich Green (186) complete the top five in the current standings.
The highlight of the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will be the 42nd running of the Southern Tier 100 for Modifieds. Current RoC Modified point leader Billy Decker is a two time winner of this event and will look to wrap up his first RoC title with a victory this Saturday. Decker has certainly found Five Mile Point Speedway to his liking in 2011 as he finished second in the season opener and then won the Night of Qualifiers and July RoC Tour event in his only other starts at the quarter mile this year. Danny Johnson, a three time winner and defending race winner of the Southern Tier 100 will be looking to chase Decker down in the standings. Johnson trails Decker by only 31 markers entering the finale (590 – 559). Johnson came up only one point short to Stewart Friesen in last years RoC Tour standings. Jeff Strunk, a three time winner on the RoC tour this season is currently third in the standings (556) with Stewart Friesen (551) and Pat Ward (493) completing the top five.
This Sunday, October 30th has been reserved for a rain date for either day of racing if needed.
