KIRKWOOD, NY.....Five Mile Point Speedway will host the final two days of racing in the northeast for 2005 this Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, a racer's flea market will get the activities underway at 8 a.m. an open practice day and early evening night cap race will complete the action. On Sunday, the R.o.C Sportsman Series title will be decided along with the T3 - 358 small block series title and the BRC Late Model Series title. Race time on Sunday is 2 p.m.
The Saturday program will have something for everyone. At 8 a.m. a racer's flea market will be held in the upper grandstand and parking lot area of the speedway. Vendors are welcome along with those just trying to sell some of their overstocked parts or race cars.
An open practice session will be held between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. which will provide teams some extra track time prior to the final racing events of the season. A special rookie practice session will also be held so race cars that are for sale could actually be test driven at the speedway that day.
At the conclusion of practice the pits will be cleared and participants will be allowed back in for the early evening racing program. The Pure Stocks will compete in the 75 lap Southern Tier Showdown paying $1,000 to the winner. The top three in the final point standings from area speedways will be guaranteed starters in this race. They will be added to the back of the field after qualifying if they fail to qualify in their heat race or consolation event. The Figure 8's will also be on the card along with a 4 cylinder stock enduro. Race time is set for 5 p.m. with all efforts being made to have the program completed by 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the held-over portion of the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will take to the speedway. Series titles will be on the line for the R.o.C Sportsman, T3 - 358 Modified Series and the BRC Late Model Series. Race time is 2 p.m. On the original scheduled date a huge field of teams were expected and that should be no different this time around.
