KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway is busily preparing for its 53rd consecutive year of racing. The 2003 racing season will get the green flag on Saturday, April 26th following two weeks of practice.

At this time there are 24 races on the schedule with more events pending. The 53rd year of racing kicks off the point season on April 26th with weekly events being held until August 30th. Special events will fill out the exciting schedule including several extra distance events for the 358 Modifieds. The Big Blocks will also join the schedule for the annual Southern Tier Open. Special events for the Sprint Cars, Sportsman, and the other weekly divisions are also included.

Mitch Gibbs will be out to defend his impressive track championship and will have plenty of competition to contend with if he is to pull it off. Gibbs is coming off a record tying season by posting 13 feature wins, tying the legendary Chuck Akulis for most wins in a season.

Gibbs put an exclamation point on his season by dominating the Big Blocks with his 358 Modified in the Southern Tier Open. That win came on the heels of his win in the Southern Tier 100 where he bested a stellar 62 car field.

Five Mile Point is coming off one of its best seasons in several years. Car counts were excellent and the track was in top shape all season. Gone is the label of the track being hard on tires. The surface produced little or no tire wear throughout the year and that has many drivers talking about returning to the Point in 2003.

Of course they will have to contend with the strong field of drivers like Rich Keehle, Don Hart, Jr., Butch Klinger, Glenn Knapp, Brian Malcomb, Dave Locke, Dana Wagner and many more. Look for some old familiar faces to return and contend for the title in 2003.

Season passes are currently available for the upcoming season. They are $225 for adults and provides grandstand admission to every show. The Great Eight Ticket Plan is also available again in 2003. The Great Eight Ticket is just $88 and entitles you to admission to all eight of the extra dollar shows.
