Five Mile
Point Speedway Begins 62nd Year of Racing With Hugh Month!
KIRKWOOD, NY…The 62nd year of racing at Five Mile Point
Speedway is expected to be like no other as a huge month of April will begin an
ambitious 2012 racing schedule. The
popular quarter mile oval is slated to open on Sunday, April 1st
with the Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman Tour along with the RoC Dirt Street
Stocks, 600 c.c. Mods, 4 Cylinders and the Tommy Boy
Factory Stock 20. Race time is 4:00
p.m.
Prior
to the opening event a practice session will be held for the teams on Saturday,
March 31st. Another
practice will be held on Saturday, April 7th with no racing
scheduled on that weekend with the Easter Weekend Holiday.
Racing
will crank back up in a big way on back to back weekends with the Annual
Southern Tier Open for the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds on Saturday, April
14th. The popular
“open competition” race will pay $2,500 to win for just 40 laps of
racing. The 2012 point races will
begin on this night as well for the Sportsman, Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds
and Lightning Cats.
Saturday,
April 21st will see another opportunity for teams to get dialed in
with an open practice round. The
next day, Sunday April 22nd will see the Race of Champions Dirt
Modified Tour taking center stage for a 60 lap event. The event will be part of the north
region tour for the series and should see a stellar field of the top Modified
drivers from the entire east coast.
The 60 lap race will pay a minimum of $4,500 to win. The IMCA Modified teams will compete in
an Empire State Series Tour race that day along with a $1,000 to win event for
the Crate Sportsman. Racing gets
underway at 4:00 p.m.
The
month of April will wrap up on Saturday, April 28th with the
official 62nd Season Opener for the Big Block/Small Block
Modifieds. A complete program of
Sportsman, Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds and Lightning Cats will be on the
card.
