FIVE MILE POINT FINALIZES SCHEDULE; 50 LAP OPENER NOW SET FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 19TH

KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway unveiled its official schedule for 2003. The 50 lap Spring Championship Season Opener is slated for Saturday, April 19th at 6:15 p.m.

Joining the 358 Modifieds on the schedule are the Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and the Pure Stocks. They will also compete in Spring Championship specials on opening night.

An open practice session will be held on Saturday, April 12th at 5:00 p.m. The practice is open to any class of car that will be competing at the Point in 2003. Gates will open for practice at 3:00 p.m.

The opener is one of the races that makes up the Great Eight Ticket Package. The package of eight special events is offered to the fans at an incredible low price of just $88. That breaks down to just $11 per event or one dollar over the regular admission price. It is an overall savings of $41.

The eight races making up the Great Eight will be the season opener on April 19th, the 39th annual Irv Heath Memorial on June 28th, the 53rd Anniversary Special on Tuesday, July 22nd, Open Wheel Excitement featuring the Patriot and KARS Sprint Cars on August 9th, Season Championship Night on August 30th, the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend on September 26th and 27th and the Southern Tier Open on October 18th.

While those are the specials that make up the Great Eight, there are some other events taking place during the season without an increase in admission. The Northeast Vintage Racing Club will make their first ever Five Mile Point appearance on Saturday, May 17th. The Slingshots will make their maiden voyage at the Point on Saturday, June 7th in a series event. The Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club will return to the Point, for the first time since 1988, on Saturday, July 19th.

Student Night will take place on May 3rd, with Kids Rides being held on May 17th. July 19th will be Senior Citizens Night, coinciding with the Vintage Race Cars. A Poster Contest for the kids will be held on July 26th. Youth Night will be held on August 2nd. Bicycle Races for the kids will take place on August 16th.

The 2003 season marks the 53rd consecutive year of racing at Five Mile Point Speedway. Racing will get started at a new time in 2003. The green flag will drop every Saturday night at 6:15 p.m.

Make your plans now to be a part of the excitement at Five Mile Point Speedway in 2003. Leave your troubles behind and enjoy a night of family entertainment without spending the family fortune.

Compare a night at the races for a family of five to a night at the area hockey game and you will find that a trip to the track is the best bargain in town. Two adults and three kids under age 12 at the hockey game will cost the family $64 plus $3 to $5 for parking. That same family can come to the races for just $20. Adult admission is just $10 and kids age 12 and under are always free at Five Mile Point. There is also no charge for parking.

Five Mile Point Speedway is located at the intersection of routes 17 and 81 in Kirkwood, New York, near Binghamton. For further information please call the speedway office at 607-775-5555 or log onto our website at www.fivemilepointspeedway.net.
