19th EDITION OF THE SOUTHERN TIER OPEN THIS SATURDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.  MODIFIED 40 LAPPER TO PAY A MINIMUM OF $2,500 TO WIN.

KIRKWOOD, NY…This Saturday Five Mile Point Speedway will host the 19th running of the Southern Tier Open for Modifieds.  The “Open” style event will pay $2,500 to the winner of the 40 lapper.  Danny Creeden is the defending race winner.

 

The Southern Tier Open has a long running history at Five Mile Point Speedway.  The race for many years was a lead in to the fall Southern Tier 100.   The event was moved to the spring several years ago to give the area Modified teams a big early season show in the southern tier. 

 

Once again this year the race will allow the Modified teams to bolt on the “sail panels” for this race.  Teams will also be permitted to run any “92 x ’13 Modified tire for the race.  This will allow teams to make tire decisions based on track conditions for that day.

 

Last year the young talent showed their skills as Danny Creeden recorded his first ever Five Mile Point Speedway victory in the event.  Danny Tyler, the recent Sportsman Open winner at the speedway finished second.  Modified rookie Jamie Batzel was third followed by Woodhull Raceway star Billy VanPelt and fellow Modified rookie Justin Holland.

 

This Saturday the Modified open event will be joined by full programs for the Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks and Lightning Cats.  This will be their opening night for the 2012 point season. 

 

Race time this Saturday is 6 p.m. with practice set to start at 5:05 p.m.  Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. and grandstand gates will open at 4 p.m.  Kids 12 and younger will be admitted free of charge in to the grandstand area.
