KIRKWOOD, NY…Mother Nature reared her ugly head on Saturday as all day rains were the winner at Five Mile Point Speedway. This Saturday is Student Night with all students with ID receiving free admission. Race time is 6:15 p.m.

Dana Wagner was the opening night winner of the Spring Championship 50 lapper for the 358 Modifieds. Wagner raced to his first career Five Mile Point win over Mike Clapperton and Mitch Gibbs in front of the largest opening night crowd in several years at the Point.

There was much anticipation going into week two however the rain had different ideas. The rain set in the early morning and never let up until early evening, forcing the rainout.

That gives everyone another week to gear up for the first regular show of the season. The 358 Modifieds, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks will all be in competition in regular distance events. Pit and grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps will get the green flag at 5:00 p.m. and the first heat will begin at 6:15 p.m.

James Cornell became a Five Mile Point Speedway regular this year and got off to a great start. Cornell took the opening night Street Stock win after overcoming a lap 10 crash. He was chased to the stripe by Tracy Gregory and Jason Schlafer.

Joel Batzel took the first UMP sanctioned Modified feature on opening night after a great battle with Mike Stoddard and Joe Price. The cars really took to the new tires and put on a great show.

Defending Pure Stock Track Champion Mahlon Shoemaker picked up where he left off last year by winning the opening night feature. He held off Toby Sparks and Louie Gordinier for the win.

Join us this Saturday for a big night of racing on Student Night. All students with identification will be admitted free of charge. Five Mile Point Speedway is located at the intersection of routes 17 and 81 in Kirkwood, New York near Binghamton.
