KIRKWOOD, NYÖFor the fourth time in five weeks, and fifth time on the year, racing was cancelled by rain at Five Mile Point Speedway Saturday on Dougís Speed Shop Night. The 39th Annual Irv Heath Memorial will take place this Saturday, featuring a 50 lapper for the 358 Modifieds as well as fireworks and Old Timers Night. Race time is 6:15 p.m.

While rain has stolen the headlines this year, itís time to break the trend in a big way this Saturday with the running of the 39th Annual Irv Heath Memorial. The 50 lapper for 358 Modifieds pays tribute to the tracks founder, who passed away in 1965. His wife Anna still owns the track and grandson Dan Harpell has run the speedway for the past 15 seasons.

This special night of racing is one of the highlights of the season at the Point. In addition to the 50 lapper, there will be plenty of other excitement on tap. Itís Old Timers Night with many of the drivers from the past on hand to enjoy the big night of racing. The festive night will be capped off with a huge fireworks display to kick off the Fourth of July.

The 50 lapper for the 358 Modifieds will pay $1,500 to win along with double points. Beautiful silver bowls will be presented to the winners in all four divisions from members of the Heath family. Double points will be on the line in the Street Stocks and Pure Stocks as well. The UMP Modifieds follow the UMP point standings and thus will run for regular points.

The Pure Stock feature has extra money on the line as well, courtesy of B&D Exhaust. The B&D Exhaust Pure Stock Challenge bonus is up to $150. The bonus goes to any driver that can win their heat race and the feature. If it is unclaimed, the bonus increases by $50 each week.

Some of the greatest drivers in Five Mile Point history will be on hand for the Old Timers ceremony. Each year on this night the track pays tribute to its history by recognizing the drivers that blazed the trail in years gone by.

Following tradition the night will be capped off with one of the best fireworks displays in the Southern Tier. Five Mile Point has always been known for its beautiful display.
