FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY REVISES REMAINDER OF SCHEDULE; SPRINT CARS RETURN ON AUGUST 30TH AND CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 6TH

KIRKWOOD, NY…Rain has forced a reshuffling of the schedule at Five Mile Point Speedway. Season Championship Night has been moved back one week to September 6th in order to reschedule the Open Wheel Excitement Sprint Car show for August 30th.

When Open Wheel Excitement was rained out on August 9th Promoter Dan Harpell got together with Kristen Woodring from the Patriot Sprints and DuVall Dressler from KARS to reschedule. When both groups determined they were available on August 30th the decision was made to reset the season ending schedule.

Season Championship Night has now been moved back a week to September 6th to accommodate both the Sprint Car show and also to give the drivers another week of racing. To date only 11 shows have been run at the Point in 2003 and many drivers and fans have been asking for makeup shows.

"Because of all of the rainouts this year it has left us with a pretty short season", said Harpell. "The Sprint Car show is a fan favorite and by rescheduling it we were able to give everyone one more week of racing", he added. That sets up a huge end of season at the Point. Saturday, August 23rd will feature a regular show of 358 Modifieds, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks.

The action then turns to Tuesday, August 26th with the running of the rescheduled 53rd Anniversary Special for 358 Modifieds and Street Stocks. The 53 lap feature will pay $2,500 to win and will feature the best drivers in the area against a strong field of invaders. The Street Stocks will run a 25 lap feature, paying $700 to win. This race was originally scheduled for July 22nd but was rained out. The show will be run in its entirety on August 26th at 7:15 p.m.

Just four days later, on August 30th, the Point will now play host to Open Wheel Excitement featuring the Patriot and KARS Sprint Cars. They will join the full show of 358 Modifieds, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Race time on the 30th is 6:00 p.m. A field of 40 or more Sprint Cars was expected when this race was originally scheduled and you can expect another strong field this time around.

Track Championship honors will now be determined on Saturday, September 6th at 6:00 p.m. On that night the 358 Modifieds will compete in a 50 lapper with extra purses on the line for all divisions. The Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks will all run extra laps as well and Championship points will be awarded in all divisions.

The rest of the 2003 schedule will remain the same as originally scheduled. The National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 26th and 27th featuring the Binghamton Pepsi-Cola Southern Tier 100 for 358 Modifieds on Saturday.

The season will come to a close on Saturday, October 18th with the running of the Southern Tier Open, featuring the only 2003 appearance of the Big Block Modifieds. The Big Blocks will go to battle against the Small Blocks with the Small Blocks holding the bragging rights with Mitch Gibbs taking the win last year with his 358 Modified.
