NATIONAL QUARTER MILE DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND SET TO GO AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY

KIRKWOOD, NY…The table is set for a fantastic weekend of racing this Friday and Saturday, September 27th and 28th at Five Mile Point Speedway. The track plays host to the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend, highlighted by the 33rd running of the Binghamton Pepsi-Cola Southern Tier 100 for 358 Modifieds.

The big two day show kicks off on Friday night when B&D Exhaust presents Southern Tier Championships for the Sportsman, Street Stocks, IMCA/Grand American Modifieds and Four Cylinder Stocks. Race time on Friday is 7:00 p.m.

The Sportsman will headline the show with a 50 lapper, paying $1,000 to win. The Street Stocks will compete in their final STAR Series championship event, which is a 25 lapper, paying $750 to win. The IMCA/Grand American Modifieds will battle 20 laps for $500 to win. The Four Cylinder Stocks will go at it in a 20 lap STAR Series event paying $300 to win.

The weekend is capped off on Saturday with the 33rd running of the Binghamton Pepsi-Cola Southern Tier 100 for 358 Modifieds along with the Northeast Pure Stock Championship. The STAR Series event for the full fendered cars is a 50 lapper paying $500 to win. Race time on Saturday is 6:00 p.m.

The Pure Stock feature has a special bonus put up by B&D Exhaust. If a driver can win his heat race and then the 50 lap feature, he will pocket a $200 bonus, making the winner’s share $700 for a Pure Stock race. If nobody wins the bonus it will carry over to the Southern Tier Open on October 19th.

The show annually draws over 200 race cars for the action packed weekend of racing. If you are a fan of dirt track racing, this show offers something for everyone.

Cars from all over the northeast will be in competition. The track is centrally located just seven miles north of the Pennsylvania border and lies in the heart of the northeast racing world.

The Binghamton Pepsi-Cola Southern Tier 100 is one of the oldest races in Modified racing. The first race was held in 1964 and ran annually until 1983. The race was revived in 1989 leading up to this, the 33rd running of the race.

Past winners of the race reads as a who’s who in Modified racing. Don Beagell, Chuck Akulis, Jack Johnson, Mike Colsten, Billy Decker and Brett Hearn are all multiple winners. One time winners include Kenny Meahl, DeForest Chalker, Dave Kneisel, Roger Beagell, Gerald Chamberlain, Stan Ploski, Sammy Beavers, Kenny Brightbill, Carl Reynolds, Alan Johnson, Jim Mahaney, Danny Johnson, Bob McCreadie, Jim Crawn, Dave Rosa, Brian Davis and Kirk Horton.

Plan on attending one of the best weekends of dirt track racing in the northeast. It all takes place this Friday and Saturday, September 27th and 28th at Five Mile Point Speedway. The rain date for the weekend is on Sunday, September 29th at 5:00 p.m.

Friday’s B&D Exhaust Southern Tier Championships get underway at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:00 p.m. and grandstand gates at 5:00 p.m. Hot laps will take place at 5:45 p.m.

Saturday’s Binghamton Pepsi-Cola Southern Tier 100 and Northeast Pure Stock Championship will get the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstand gates at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps will begin at 4:45 p.m.

A Sunday rain date has been set. If needed, racing would begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
