KIRKWOOD, NY…Butch Klinger, Chris Piasecki, Randy Hall and Shawn Mills all claimed top honors Saturday on B&D Exhaust Southern Tier Championship Night at Five Mile Point Speedway. The race, which was rained out on September 27th, wrapped up the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend.

The 50 lap Sportsman feature highlighted the big night of racing that featured 133 entries. A great battle ensued up front between, Rick Whitney, Brian Decker, Don Hart, Jr., Butch Klinger and Ken Titus in the early part of the race. The event was red flagged for a frightening crash on lap 11 that involved 14 cars on the homestretch. Tom Gervasi go upside down with his roof facing oncoming traffic. Matt Smith had nowhere to go and slammed into the roof of the Gervasi’s disabled mount. The other cars all piled in around them. All drivers would walkaway unharmed but the impact of the crash cut the field nearly in half.

When racing resumed Whitney held the top spot with Decker, Hart, and Klinger close behind. With plenty of dicing going on behind him, Whitney would maintain his advantage until lap 39 when he dropped off the pace.

That put Decker in front with Hart trying desperately to get around him. Contact was made in turn two on lap 43 with Decker spinning and Hart going to the rear in the attrition filled race. Klinger inherited the lead and held off Titus to capture the win. Titus was second ahead of Hart and Decker as the only cars left on the lead lap. Cliff Pierce was fifth ahead of Ted Stout, Ray Menard, Kevin Jordan, Whitney and George Kostelansky.

Chris Piasecki went wire to wire to grab his first career win at The Point in the Street Stock STAR Series Championship event. Dale Welty stayed right on his bumper, waiting for a mistake. Piasecki kept his cool despite Welty pulling alongside of him in the third turn of the final lap.

Piasecki picked up the $750 win ahead of Welty, Ken Hammond, Pete Gulick and John Glezen. Sixth through tenth went to Wade Decker, Frank Chapman, Ralph Shoemaker, Jr., Mike Decker and P.J. Goodwin.

Billy Dunn held the lead at the drop of the green in the Grand American Modified feature. Dunn, Greg Galligan, Sean Lias and Randy Hall put on a clinic as they battled back and forth for the top spots. Galligan moved in front on lap five before Dunn went back to the lead on lap six.

Lias took the lead on lap nine but relinquished the helm to Hall on lap ten. Lias then dropped from the event with mechanical troubles. George Catazano moved into second and tried to mount an attack on Hall but Hall was up to the test and took the win.

Catazano was second ahead of Joe Price, Dunn and Galligan. Positions six through ten went to John Thayer, Kevin Cook, Joe Cole, Joe Novak and Bob Chapman.

Shawn Mills took the lead on lap 13 and held off a hard charging Jim Money to capture the STAR Series Four Cylinder Stock Championship event. Rich Powell finished third ahead of George Crippen and Jamie Banta. Sixth through tenth went to Scott Johnson, Mitch Hurlburt, Chris Leitner, Ken Hotaling and Ed Hulslander.
