KIRKWOOD, NY…Jim Crawn became the fifth different 358 Modified feature winner in as many weeks Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway. James Cornell, Joe Price, Jr. and Charlie Gilbert were also victorious on B&D Exhaust Night.

Dave Rumsey blasted into the lead at the drop of the green in the 358 Modified feature. Jim Crawn moved into second on lap seven and tried to keep pace with the high flying Rumsey. Don Hart, Jr. was moving up from his ninth starting spot, moving into third on lap 10.

Rumsey continued to set a blistering pace in the relatively caution free event but Crawn never let him out of his sight. Two other drivers on the move were Dave Doig and Mike Ricci, making his first appearance of 2003 at the Point.

They would crack the top five late in the race but could never mount a challenge on Rumsey and Crawn. Patience was the name of the game for Crawn as he waited until nine laps to go to make his move. Rumsey left just enough room for Crawn to slip underneath and take the lead.

Crawn would take the win, the 50th of his career, over Rumsey. Ricci was coming strong at the end but ran out of time and had to settle for third over a strong running Mike Decker and Doig, who came from 13th. Positions six through ten went to Butch Klinger, Brian Malcolm, Glenn Knapp, Dana Wagner and J.R. Crouse.

Rob Harder took the early lead in the Street Stock feature. Harder would open a commanding lead before the caution flew on lap eight. Jerry Tonti would take the lead on the ensuing restart with James Cornell following him into second.

Cornell needed just one lap to take the lead and cruise to his fourth win of the season. It was also the 50th win in Cornell’s young career. Tonti would come home second ahead of Harder, Brett Spoor and Pat Nolan. Sixth through tenth went to Jason Bartsch, Jason Schlafer, Ken Taugher, Paul Rooney and Ken Sparks.

The UMP Modified feature was slowed by several cautions but none of them could deter Joe Price, Jr. from taking his first win of the season. Price led from wire to wire, holding off Jeff Cleveland for the win.

Mike Stolarcyk III finished third ahead of Joel Batzel and Joe Cole. Rounding out the top ten were Ralph Shoemaker, Jr., Mike Stolarcyk, Mike Stoddard, Lee Sharpsteen and Gary Dence.

Charlie Gilbert took the lead from Randy Rolison on lap ten of the Pure Stock feature and then held off a serious challenge from Shane Wolf to score his third win of the season. Wolf would finish second ahead of Mahlon Shoemaker, Rolison and Mark Aldrich. Sixth through tenth went to Jim Ortiz, Brett Barrett, Mike Lartz, Cory Bond and Tom Garren.

This Saturday is Doug’s Speed Shop Night featuring a full show of 358 Modifieds, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and race time is 6:15 p.m.
