KIRKWOOD, NY…Dana Wagner became the first repeat 358 Modified winner Saturday on Doug’s Speed Shop Night at Five Mile Point Speedway. James Cornell, Kevin Cole and Mark Aldrich were also victorious on the quarter mile oval.
Butch Klinger took the lead on lap four from Dan Hineline but the man on the move was Dana Wagner. Coming from his eighth starting spot, Wagner raced into second by lap four on the super quick track.
Klinger and Wagner then waged a torrid battle for the lead as they ran side by side for the next eight laps. Wagner finally made his move to take the lead on lap 12 of the 30 lapper. Bob Hamm and Mike Decker worked their way through traffic to join the battle up front.
Another driver on the move was Dave Doig from his 14th starting spot. Decker took second from Hamm with nine laps to go and tried to catch the high flying Wagner. Wagner was never seriously challenged and he cruised to his second win of the season.
Decker was a strong second ahead o Hamm, Doig and Klinger. Rounding out the top ten were Dan Vauter, J.R. Crouse, Alan Rudalavage, Brian Malcom and Glenn Knapp.
The Street Stock feature was highlighted by a tremendous three car battle between Jason Schlafer, Rob Harder and James Cornell. Schlafer was the early leader but Harder wasted no time moving in to challenge. The two ran side by side allowing Cornell to join in the hunt.
Harder took the lead on lap 13 with Cornell taking second on the next circuit. Cornell chased Harder until finally moving into the lead with four laps to go. Cornell would score his sixth win in seven weeks ahead of Harder and Schlafer.
Brett Spoor was fourth followed by Ken Sparks. Positions six through ten went Jerry Tonti, Fred Christ, Byron Pitcher, Brian MacRabie and Nate Evans.
Kevin Cole went wire to wire to score the UMP Modified feature win. Cole dominated the race and became the sixth different winner in seven weeks of racing. Cole was chased to the stripe by Mike Stoddard, Brad Shaffer, Gary Dence and Joe Cole.
Jeremy Shaw held the early lead in the Pure Stock feature before Mark Aldrich took over on lap six. Aldrich held off Jim Ortiz to notch his first win of the season.
Mahlon Shoemaker was third ahead of Shane Wolf and Mike Lartz. Sixth through tenth went to Corey Bond, Brett Barrett, Shaw, Dee Ramey and Jerry Whitmarsh.
