KIRKWOOD, NY…Bob Hamm took home top honors in the 358 Modified feature Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway. James Cornell, Jeff Cleveland and Randy Rolison were also victorious at the Point.

Jim Corcoran raced to the early lead in the 358 Modified feature and was challenged early by his son Brian Corcoran. Glenn Knapp quickly moved into challenge, taking second on lap four.

Knapp followed Jim Corcoran for several laps before making his move on lap 12. Knapp took the lead with Bob Hamm moving into third. Hamm quickly dispensed of Corcoran and set his sights on the big prize. After following Knapp for six laps, Hamm went to the inside of turn four to take the lead on lap 18.

Hamm powered away from the field leaving Knapp to contend with Dave Rumsey, who had moved into third from his 10th starting spot. Hamm would capture his first career Five Mile Point feature win with Knapp coming home second. Rumsey, Corcoran and Dick Sundgren rounded out the top five. Sixth through tenth went to Dan Vauter, J.R. Crouse, Don Hart, Jr., Billy Thorntonand Dan Morden.

James Cornell needed just four laps to take the lead in the Street Stock feature. Cornell would romp to his 10th win of the season over Brett Spoor, Matt Roberts, Jerry Tonti and Dan Pompey. Rounding out the top ten were Rob Harder, Ken Taugher, Jason Bartsch, Byron Pitcher and Bob Teribury.

Jeff Cleveland took the lead from Kevin Cole on lap seven of the UMP Modified feature. Cole tried to keep pace but Cleveland had too much and captured his third win of the season. Cole was second ahead of Mike Stolarcyk III, Joel Batzel and Gary Dence.

Probably the most excited winner of the night was Randy Rolison in the Pure Stocks. The low buck Rolison had been competing in the Street Stock ranks over the past few years. This year he switched to the Pure Stocks in search of his first career win.

Rolison would win his heat, making him eligible for the B&D Exhaust Pure Stock bonus. He then went wire to wire in the feature to score his first career win and the $150 bonus that went with it.

Rolison would be followed to the line by Randy Percival, Darl Ellis, Toby Sparks and Dee Ramey. Sixth through tenth went to Mike Lartz, Charlie Gilbert, Mahlon Shoemaker, Fred Velez and Jim Ortiz.

Bicycle races were held for the kids. The 6 and under winner was Tyler Hart. Katelyn Peaster won the 7 to 10 age group and Cody Curry won the 11 and 12 group. Curry and Hart both were winners last year. The next couple of weeks will be very busy at the Point. This Saturday is a full show of 358 Modifieds, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Race time is 6:15 p.m. The action then returns on Tuesday, August 26th with the rescheduled 53rd Anniversary Special for 358 Modifieds and Street Stocks. Race time on Tuesday is 7:15 p.m.

The following Saturday, August 30th, there will be a change in the schedule. The Patriot and KARS Sprint Cars will return to compete in Open Wheel Excitement. They will join the full show of 358 Modifieds, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Season Championship Night has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 6th. Track championship honors will be determined on that night.

COUNTER POINTS…Heavy, damaging thunderstorms ripped through the area but never reached the track. The heavy rain hit less than a mile from the track but never slowed down the night of racing…Hamm's father was a numerous feature winner and Track Champion in the old Mini Stock division in the 1970's…Hamm became the ninth different Modified winner this year at the Point.
