NICK ROCHINSKI WINS ROC DART DIRT SPORTSMAN 40 SUNDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.

KIRKWOOD, NYNick Rochinski returned to his racing roots on Sunday night at Five Mile Point Speedway by winning the RoC Dart Dirt Sportsman 40 lap special.  Rochinski a former Sportsman driver at the speedway was a rookie in the Modified class in 2009.  The victory put his name in the records book as the first feature winner in the 60th Anniversary Season at the historic quarter mile.

Rochinski, from Dickson City, PA started fifth in the twenty four car starting field and took the lead on lap number two.  He went on to lead the remaining distance to claim the victory.  A late race challenge by another Five Mile Point Speedway regular Jeff Crambo fell short as he wound up in second.  Kenny Hammond a weekly driver at the Skyline Speedway finished third.  Anthony Perrego finished fourth with fourteen year old Michael Weinert finishing fifth in his first ever Five Mile Point Speedway start.

Rochinski will return to the Modified ranks for the Annual Southern Tier Open at Five Mile Point Speedway on April 24th.  He does plan to run the entire RoC Dart Dirt Sportsman Tour in 2010 as well.  The win netted him $1,500.

In victory lane Rochinski commented on the effort, “I knew he (Jeff Crambo) was behind me but I knew if I focused on my line we would be in good shape,”  He added, “The early part of the race was great as we didn’t have a caution until lap 18 but the last half was frustrating with the yellows.”  “We’re so happy to get this win and now we can focus on our Modified effort again in a couple of weeks.”

The victory netted Rochinski $1,500 but more importantly makes him the point leader in the popular Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman Tour.

Denny Decker took advantage of his outside front row starting spot in the 25 lap Street Stock feature to claim the season opening victory.  Decker worked in to the lead on the very first lap and was only challenged late by Fulton Speedway driver Dave Mannise.  Decker won by a full car length at the finish.  Defending Five Mile Point Speedway Track Champion Charlie Gilbert finished third followed by Butch Green and Doug Polhamus.

The Lightning Cat Expert Division feature was won by Kenny Underwood and Mike Seamen recorded his first ever win in the Lightning Cat Novice Division feature.

Racing continues on Saturday, April 24th with the running of the Annual Southern Tier Open for Modifieds.
